Hello Pojo Fans,

Welcome to Lightsworn week again on CoTD. It’s been a while, but we’ve got new Lightsworn support to go with the reprint of their introductory set, starting with Weiss, Lightsworn Archfiend.

Weiss should’ve been introduced alongside Raiden, but alas we are here. Level 4 Tuner that is meant to set up your Synchro Summons rather than attack. Stacking a Lightsworn to mill two cards and Special Summon Weiss, your Tuner, just screams to be paired with Felis and Wulf. Felis barely had a place in the deck because of her needing to hit the grave via a monster effect, while Wulf only needed to hit the grave from the Deck via card effect. With Weiss and these cards you are guaranteed to set up a Synchro 8, Link 2, or Rank 4 with one of them, Link 3, Synchro 12 or a multiple material Rank 4 if you run them. Weiss is meant to unclog your hand and make the rarely utilized Lightsworn monsters usable, and they do.

If Weiss gets sent to the grave from the Deck she is a Monster Reborn for Lightsworn for you. Any Lightsworn is available for this effect, giving your Synchro Lightsworn monsters another shot on the field, let alone something you may have just used for an Extra Deck summon (Minerva Rank 4, mill Weiss, Special Summon something you mill).

Weiss is the total package for Lightsworn, despite having 0ATK and being a Fiend rather than a Warrior, Fairy, or Spellcaster. They are still LIGHT so Honest can protect, but again, the point of Weiss is to better your field and unclog your hand.

Being about 7 years since we’ve seen Curious and the Twilightsworns, we finally see more Lightsworn support to boost the Deck up to date, starting with a new Tuner for the archetype: Weiss, Lightsworn Archfiend.

Weiss is a Level 4 LIGHT Fiend Tuner with 0 ATK and 1700 DEF. 1700 DEF is okay, LIGHT Fiend is pretty good, and Level 4 Tuners are always nice. First effect lets you place a Lightsworn monster from your hand back onto the top of your Deck to Special Summon this from the hand and then send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the graveyard. Basically in Lighthsworn, you can put Wulf or Felis back to the top of the Deck to summon this, and then mill said Wulf or Felis to summon itself for an instant Rank 4, or a Level 8 Synchro if you use Wulf. Lightsworns have always had a problem bricking with Wulf and later Felis, so a way to fix that problem is great, especially on a target searchable off of Charge of the Light Brigade. The other effect triggers upon being sent from the Deck to the graveyard, letting you revive any Lightsworn in the graveyard, besides Weiss. Another good Lightsworn name to mill, helping get a Lightsworn back out of the grave like Raiden, Lumina, or tomorrow’s card potentially. Each effect is a hard once per turn, but that’s fine. It’s a card that makes drawing your Wulf and/or Felis not as bad, and it does something upon being milled, which should work with the other milling you do if you hit more Lightsworn names. It’s a great card for the Deck in the modern day, and playing 3 is nice so you can see it in the opening hand with your bricks to mill.

Advanced Rating: 4/5

Art: 3.5/5 Snoww was honestly cooler looking as a Dark World.

Hope you’re not too fatigued from milling, because this week we’re covering the new Lightsworn support from Legacy of Destruction, starting with Weiss, Lightsworn Archfiend. It’s a level 4 LIGHT Fiend Tuner monster, being Lightsworn’s first and currently only fiend, but level 4 LIGHT monsters are standard for this deck, letting you go into Rank 4 and Synchro 8 plays very easily. Weiss is searchable with Charge of the Light Brigade, and importantly, being a Fiend lets you send it with an upcoming card this week. Weiss has a horrendous 0 attack, which would be good for Piri Reis Map if you didn’t want to summon Weiss with its own effect. Weiss’s 1700 defense isn’t very inspiring either, so get it off the field as soon as possible.

Weiss comes with two hard once per turn effects, the first letting you Special Summon it from your hand by placing a Lightsworn card from your hand on top of the deck, then mill two cards from your deck. Lightsworn fans will immediately realize just how useful this effect is– not only can you put your garnets (Wulf, Lightsworn Beast and Felis, Lightsworn Archer) back into the deck, Weiss will immediately mill them along with an additional card, which all but guarantees a Rank 4 play and potentially a level 8 Synchro if you mill Wulf. Weiss’s other effect triggers if it’s sent from the deck to the Graveyard, Special Summoning any Lightsworn monster except another Weiss. It’s a simple but helpful effect, since you can send it off of their new level 8 Synchro or tomorrow’s card for extra value, though in many cases sending Felis or Wulf will also get the job done. Being able to get rid of Wulf and Felis by default makes Weiss an excellent card; always run 3! I wish there were more ways to get to it than Charge of the Light Brigade, and it has to be in the hand for its stronger effect, but I can’t really complain.

+Puts garnets back into the deck and immediately activates them
+Fiend uniquely gives it synergy with Minerva, the Athenian Lightsworn
-Needs to be in the hand for the stronger effect
-Encourages running more copies of Wulf and Felis, which can lead to bricking

Art: 3.75/5 Looks like Snoww had a change of heart, or maybe the Lightsworns started their own brainwashing program.
