This card’s art fascinates me. Whoever is climbing into the saddle might be the legendary creature whose cost is being reduced, yet the reflection shows three rather hostile-looking posse members, including one who seems to be about to lasso and hogtie the rider. It would certainly fit with the set’s overall focus on villains!

Aside from the artistic intrigue, though, I wouldn’t expect to see this card in too many tournament decks. Between specifically mentioning the term “commander” and being an enchantment whose passive effect doesn’t apply to things already on the table, it has some obstacles for competitive Magic. But there’s already a bunch of legendary creature-themed pseudo-kindred decks in Commander – they just got a big boost from Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth – and this could be an interesting option there. It also encourages you to play with commanders who like to attack for other reasons, which is always fun; and perhaps with things like Relentless Assault

This card is from the Commander subset.

For when you want to get your yee-haw on or something, I reckon. We Ride At Dawn is a good way to get the gang together and to help keep it together, between the convoke and the army-raising when your commander attacks. This is quite a fun go-wide strategy enabler, and the Mercenaries can even help a creature get sufficiently large. This can definitely pay off for more than just a commander, though it shines brightest when it’s already out…that said, I do think this is probably not going to make waves in deeper formats, since this does very little without the fuel to get the fire going with or the payoffs that might stand to benefit from it.
