Doesn’t green usually get the most on- or above-rate big creatures? Seriously, this is close to Lost Caverns‘ answer to Carnage Tyrant. Don’t forget that discover is a cast trigger and you get the extra card regardless of what happens next, meaning Jund-style everything-damages decks always have pressure when they cast the Carnosaur, regardless of what does or doesn’t stay on the table. And having uncounterable damage as a “second mode” is a great option when your opponent is trying to recover with a planeswalker. This card is incredibly solid and is going to end a lot of games a lot faster than it looks.

Trumpeting Carnosaur is the kind of creature that plays far, far better than it looks. It’s effectively your choice of either a 2-for-1 at 6 mana or, in a pinch, a burn spell for three mana that ducks around most countermagic. Spells with multiple “modes” are excellent for pushing more power into fewer deck slots, though it’s worth noting that a 7/6 with trample is still quite fine, particularly when it also finds another spell. Being able to do both is pretty insane, and it’s also worth note that Trumpeting Carnosaur’s discovery is when it comes into play, so there’s plenty more fun to be had. This might not be hugely flashy, but it might be the most played card in Lost Caverns of Ixalan in Standard for being both a pretty good removal spell and a pretty good creature in one deck slot.
