Tenyi Spirit – Adhara
– #RIRA-EN012

If you control no Effect Monsters: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. If you control a face-up non-Effect Monster: You can banish this card from your hand or GY, then target 1 of your banished Wyrm monsters, except this card; add it to your hand. You can only use each effect of “Tenyi Spirit – Adhara” once per turn.

My personal favorite archetype to come out of the new Rising Rampage set is up for review this week as we start with Tenyi Spirit – Adhara.

Adhara is a Level 1 EARTH Wyrm Tuner with 0 ATK and DEF. Complaining about a Level 1’s poor stats feels pointless, but I like EARTH, I like Wyrm, and while it being a Tuner seems weird right now, at least the archetype gets a Synchro in the next set. If you control no Effect Monsters, you can Special Summon this guy from the hand, which I appreciate a free body on board, especially with all the Tenyi Spirits doing this. It doesn’t specifically say you have to have a monster, either, so you can just use this by controlling no monsters or controlling vanilla monsters, it’s up to you. If you control a face-up non-Effect monster, you can banish this card from the graveyard to target a banished Wyrm that isn’t the Adhara you just banished, but you can target a different Adhara, and add it to your hand. All the Tenyi Spirits can also banish themselves to protect your massive vanilla monsters or do other things, so Adhara getting them back is great. I don’t know what other Wyrms you might have banished to use with this, I’d say Mare Mare if it wasn’t for the fact you wouldn’t probably want that in your hand anyways. Each effect of Adhara is a hard once per turn for proper balance, but both are still good effects, more than worthwhile in the Tenyi deck.

These Tenyi Spirit cards are really cool, so Japanese, no?  Tenyi Spirit-Adhara is an Earth attributed, Level 1 Monster, with 0 attack and defense.  Also a Wyrm Monster, and has the benefit of being a Tuner.  So new Wyrm support, as well as generic Normal support is a good thing too, in my opinion.  You may or may not recall how fond I am of Dark Magician (which at last check, is a Normal Monster).

So, Adhara can be Special Summoned if you control no effect Monsters.  Note this doesn’t stipulate you HAVE to control any Normals, but it would make using a hybrid of Wyrms and them easier.  This is only from your Hand, which is a bit of a down side, but you can remove this card from your Hand or Graveyard to add a Wyrm of yours that’s removed from play (not this card) back to your Hand.

In the latter instance here, you do have to control a Non-Effect Monster.  Each effect is only once per turn.  While the 0/0 attached is a downer, this is a classic combo card for either Extra Deck Summoning or cycling pieces back for other plays.  It’s small, but it does a couple of neat things, and you still can’t scoff at the Special Summon attached, even being conditional.

Art:  4/5  Plain enough, but I like it.  It’s a Spirit indeed (kinda feel like it should actually be a Spirit) but I like what I’m seeing here enough overall.

Generic Level 1 Tuner is splashable and useful. Tenyi Spirit – Adhara is a Level 1 Earth Warm-type Tuner Monster with 0 Atk and 0 Def. The stats are terrible except when using this to Special Summon itself from your hand while you control no effect monsters. Or, from the hand or grave, Adhara will banish itself while you control a non-effect monster to add any other banished Wyrm monster to your hand, including a different copy of itself. Both effects are once per turn, but they do work nicely with each other. I also like that traditional Wyrm and Tuner support will work on Adhara. I think the Invoked Earth Fusion is a non-effect monster that can work with this, but I’m not sure if Invoked Tenyi is a thing. Even if it’s not, Adhara still helps combos happen and is run in multiples in its own deck. The artwork is very cool too. Happy Monday!
