Hello Pojo Fans,

Trains keep on rollin today with Super Express Bullet Train.

Easy to Special Summon in its own archetype, as well as any deck that can get an EARTH Machine monster on the field (Superheavy Samurai and Gadgets to name a few). Sending two cards you control to the grave is a drawback to having this attack, but several times Bullet Train is a means to ending on a big Rank 10, so that effect may not come into play. Several Rank 10’s exist, as well as a card later in the week (Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Juggernaut Liebe) which can be Xyz Summoned using just one Rank10, upping this cards playability. Search effect from the grave if you send this card to the grave that turn is a good way of getting back a Machine monster of any kind. In many decks this card could be used primarily for its second effect. With Limiter Removal now at 3, the chances that you could OTK with this kind of deck are extremely high. Going back to the first effect, merely attacking with this card last can allow you to get the most out of your field and still get an attack in with this card.

Advanced-4/5- versatile, easy to summon in several decks outside of its own, and a searcher.

I must say, I really like this card. Super Express Bullet Train is a Level 10 Earth Machine-type monster with 3000 Atk and 0 Def. 3000 Atk is very nice particularly with Limiter Removal and Skill Drain. You have to send 2 other cards you control first to the grave in order for this Train to attack normally. This only makes sense because the alternate Special Summon condition is so good. Once per turn you can Special Summon SEB Train from your hand if you control only Earth Machines and at least 1. Use this for a good XYZ or Link Monster and during the End Phase SEB Train will add a targeted Machine in the grave back to your hand. It’s once per turn and cannot target itself or other copies of itself, but the advantage of a strong easy Special Summon searchable monster is very good. Run three because this will at the very least always find an easy way to the grave to recur something.

We are talking about Rank 10 Trains, so of course we were going to see a new Level 10 Train and here it is, Super Express Bullet Train.

Bullet Train is a Level 10 EARTH Machine with 3000 ATK and 0 DEF. ATK of 3000 or more is typically impressive on any level but I don’t like 0 DEF ever, but once again that EARTH/Machine combination is great. This card cannot declare an attack unless you send 2 other cards you control to the GY. The Level 10s in the Rank 10 Train deck have high stats, but some big downside to make sure you aren’t just summoning a single big body to attack with. If you are summoning this, it is to summon something from the Extra Deck, so it doesn’t matter what attack restriction it has. You can only use each effect of Super Express Bullet Train per turn:

  1. If all monsters you control are EARTH Machines (min. 1) you can Special Summon this card from your hand.
  2. During the End Phase, if this card was sent to the GY this turn, you can target 1 Machine monster in your GY and add it back to your hand excluding Super Express Bullet Train.

The first effect is what gets this on the field in the first place, and it is very easy to do. Night Express Knight can be Normal Summoned without tribute as long as it becomes 0 ATK and it is EARTH Machine so you can Special Summon this. Heavy Freight Train Derricrane can also be Special Summoned when an EARTH Machine is summoned so you can Normal Summon a Level 4 like Flying Pegasus or Ruffian Railcar to Special Summon it and then Special Summon Bullet Train for an immediate Rank 10 that can pop a card once Derricrane is detached. The second effect is good for when you detach this card as a material or use it for a Link Summon since it retrieves one of your monsters for a future Xyz play, oddly it doesn’t have to be an EARTH Machine and just a Machine if that ends up mattering for some reason. Super Express Bullet Train is another Level 10 that gets on the field easily so you can summon your Rank 10s, sure Link Summoning will prevent you from summoning multiple Rank 10s as fast as possible, but the right hand in a Train deck can get you a Link-2 and one of your Rank 10s out with ease. Super Express I say is another three of.

Speaking of Rank erm Level 10 Trains, here’s one, in Super Express Bullet Train.  Level 10, Earth, Machine, 3000 attack, (a nonexistent defense of 0) and this card makes good friends with our Pegasus we covered yesterday.  0 defense is always an insult, especially on a higher Level card…it makes it that much easier to kill…good for the opponent, bad for someone who invested the resource(s) to bring it out.

Fortunately, despite that big 0 defense, for starters, if you control only Earth/Machine Monsters (minimum of just 1) SEB Train can Special Summon itself from your Hand.  A 3000 attack Special Summon just by controlling a Monster of the same Type and Attribute?  That’s very welcome indeed.  The Level 10 obviously can be adapted to the Pegasus of yesterday via its effect to bring out a Rank 10, so that’s helpful too.

The attack restriction on this card is a downer, but shouldn’t ever be an issue.  The play here is XYZ, so even though you have to send two cards of your control to the Graveyard to attack, you’re very likely never going to use that effect anyway.  So I’m not holding any negative aspect toward this card on that one.  Finally we have a recovery ability in the second effect.

If this card is in your Graveyard, during the turn it was sent there, you can Target a Machine Monster in your Graveyard, and add it to your Hand.  Naturally, that effect would (and does) exclude itself, but that’s fine too.  This card is already too easy to bring out, and to cycle it back from the Graveyard to your Hand so easily would be just plain wrong.  That would be too much power to abuse.

Rating:  4/5

Art:  4.5/5 I much like the cosmic feel I get from the colors surrounding the train.  I think it’s more reminiscent of a torpedo, but I don’t know if torpedoes are bullets, per say.

(Alternate art response for my sci-fi fans out there:  “I’m giving her all she’s got Captain!”)
