Samsara D Lotus – #PHNI-EN003

You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 “Yubel” monster from your Deck. During your opponent’s turn, when a monster effect is activated, while you control a “Yubel” monster (Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card; the activated effect becomes “Destroy 1 “Yubel” monster on the field”. During your End Phase, if you control “Yubel” and this card is in your GY: You can add this card to your hand, or Special Summon it. You can only use each effect of “Samsara D Lotus” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Samsara D Lotus is the retrained Samsara Lotus for the Yubel archetype and makes it easier to get to Yubel.

Simple Plant Level 1 monster that can trade itself for Yubel, Samsara D Lotus being a Level 1 makes it a prime target for One for One or Piri Reis Map because of its 0ATK, if you don’t mind losing half your LP. While this effect is enough to play this card in the archetype, the ability to change any monster effect of your opponents to be “destroy Yubel” instead, helps trigger Yubel’s destruction ability and get to Terror Incarnate or a different Yubel. Sadly, it can only happen during your opponent’s turn, otherwise it would have been an even better effect. Regardless, going into Terror Incarnate after previously Special Summoning Yubel during your opponent’s turn is a great attempt to wipe your opponent’s field. On the other side of that, you can always summon Samsara D Lotus, pop, Special Summon Spirit of Yubel, get your search from SoY (likely Nightmare Pain), then pop Spirit of Yubel with Nightmare Pain to get the original Yubel to the field with the bonus of adding a card off Nightmare Pain.

D Lotus having the ability to come back in the End Phase either to the hand or on the field helps to keep advantage for you and either prepare for your opponent’s turn with D Lotus’s monster effect change ability, or to prep for your turn to pop it again.

Samsara D Lotus is an archetype strategy starter for Yubel. The search ability and its ability to return to the field at no cost is great for keeping access to Yubel. Its ability to alter a monster’s effect to force a Yubel destruction is going to force your opponent to play around it, and you can wait out an effect you want to “negate”.

Since these Yubels don’t have a reliable way on their own to Special Summon themselves, we at least got a monster to do it for us: Samsara D Lotus.

Samsara D Lotus is a Level 1 DARK Fiend with 0 ATK and DEF. The stats work for the Yubel Deck and DARK/Fiend remains great. The first effect lets you tribute itself to summon any Yubel monster from the Deck, which only includes Yubel and Spirit of Yubel since both Terror Incarnate and The Ultimate Nightmare need the previous forms to be destroyed to be summoned still. It’s immediate access to Spirit of Yubel to get to your backrow, or you can get classic Yubel if you already used Spirit’s effect and want to destroy said Yubel to summon Terror Incarnate. During the opponent’s turn, when a monster effect is activated and you control a Yubel monster, you get a Quick Effect to tribute this card to change that effect into destroying a Yubel monster you control, triggering their effects to float into the other forms while also stopping a likely powerful monster effect in the process. Finally, during the End Phase, if you control the classic Yubel and this card is in your graveyard, you can revive it, which gives you tribute fodder for Yubel’s effect to stay on field or gets it back on board to stop a monster effect. It also gives this card an effect that refers to the classic Yubel so it can be searchable, so that’s a plus. Hard once per turn on each effect, of course. Samsara D Lotus is another key piece to the modern Yubel strategy, getting the Deck off the ground as a way to get to Spirit of Yubel or Yubel, whichever one you need. Play 3 of this as extra copies of your Yubels and for the editing of a monster effect and easy revival it has.

Samsara Lotus gets an upgrade as Samsara D Lotus, a level 1 DARK Fiend monster with 0 attack and defense, making it searchable with Piri Reis Map and the new Nightmare Throne (name pending). The original Samsara Lotus was used by Yubel in GX as practically infinite tribute fodder to keep Yubel alive, though in the card game it’s more infamous for enabling an FTK that involved Trickstar monsters and Topologic Bomber Dragon.

D Lotus is another jacked card, having three hard once per turn effects. The first effect is a simple Lonefire, letting you tribute D Lotus to Special Summon any Yubel monster from your deck. While it won’t bypass the condition for Terror Incarnate and Ultimate Nightmare, you can still bring out Yubel or, more importantly, Spirit of Yubel, single-handedly starting your bread and butter combo, though it is quite weak to Ash Blossom like most Lonefire-like effects. D Lotus’s second effect is a Quick Effect only usable during your opponent’s turn, letting you tribute D Lotus while you control a Yubel monster in response to any monster effect to change that effect into destroying a Yubel on the field. It’s a neat effect that’s effectively a monster negate that turns Yubel into Terror Incarnate, though you do have to keep D Lotus alive to make use of it; it’s also largely redundant when one of Yubel’s upcoming support cards is an omni negate that accomplishes the same thing without requiring D Lotus on the field. Its last effect is a direct shout-out to the original Samsara Lotus, usable during the End Phase if you control Yubel, letting you either Special Summon D Lotus or recycle it back to your hand from the Graveyard. Just like in the anime, this effect is meant to provide tribute fodder to keep Yubel alive, and if you happen to have more fodder, D Lotus can survive to use its negate effect if you wish. While D Lotus loses some relevance with Yubel’s new support, it’s still your bread and butter combo starter, so you’ll still want to play 3 copies.

+1 card combo starter
+Provides constant Link and tribute fodder
-Vulnerable to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring
-Negate effect doesn’t come up too often
