Hello Pojo Fans,

Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames is the chase card of the entire set and one that is very powerful.

It was only a matter of time before we got another meta Link 3, and here it is. Promethean Princess has generic materials needed as a Link 3, but is all about FIRE. Locking you into FIRE monsters hurts playability, but that just means you’ll see her in one of the now MANY FIRE-based strategies out there. Fire King, Infernoid, Salamangreat, Snake-Eye, they all will play her.

Special Summon a FIRE from the grave for free is the easiest way to recycle your best FIRE monster effects in the same turn as long as they aren’t a hard once per turn. Most of the time this is the case and you can recoup one of the monsters used to summon her, then plus off their effect and maybe link climb using her for a Rank 4.

Bringing herself back at the cost of an opponent’s monster and one of your monsters is hardly a steep cost. All the FIRE archetypes listed previously can plus off destruction or make up the loss without missing a beat. On top of that, you are getting rid of an opponent’s monster in the process while summoning your 2700ATK Link 3 that will get back the monster you destroyed on your side of the field to recycle its effect(s) that turn (if possible). Promethean Princess does not break even, she advances your plays.

Three monsters to summon her however you like (3 monster or a Link 2 and a monster), you will get back a monster with her immediately and once she’s on the field successfully she will keep coming back as long as you can fuel her comeback. You can even use a Kaiju to trigger her Special Summon and get around any kind of multi-neagation monster your opponent may have holding the field down. FIRE strategies were already going to be what 2024 was all about with Fire King support, Snake-Eye becoming a thing, and the best Red Dragon Archfiend support we’ve seen to this point. Promethean Princess was part of the hype and she will be part of the FIRE problem until it gets addressed.

We end the week with the powerhouse that debuted in Master Duel first, before being released in the OCG soon after and now the TCG to help continue the FIRE support we’ve receieved recently: Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames.

Promethean Princess is a Link-3 FIRE Fiend with 2700 ATK and arrows pointing Left, Right, and Down. Strong ATK on a Link-3, FIRE is great, Fiend is good, and arrows are solid. Materials are also any 2+ Effect Monsters, which is weird considering this is FIRE support and it doesn’t specifically need a FIRE monster, but I won’t complain about generic to summon Links. You cannot Special Summon any monsters that aren’t FIRE, so you still want to play this with FIRE monsters for sure. The remaining effects are each a HOPT, the first letting you revive any FIRE monster from your graveyard during your Main Phase, making this an easy extender for your plays to revive a good end-board piece or to use it and this to summon a FIRE Link-4 like Amblowhale or Raging Phoenix. The second effect triggers when the opponent Special Summons a monster(s), letting you target a FIRE monster you control and a monster the opponent controls to destroy them and revive this from the graveyard, which makes it great to Link-off to begin with. You can even destroy the Amblowhale you summoned with this to make its graveyard effects live as well, or you can trigger Fire King effects if you run this with Fire Kings (which you honestly should). All while likely disrupting the opponent by removing a monster. Promethean Princess is just another addition to a year full of powerful FIRE support which has lead to the dominance of Snake-Eyes, whether pure or with Fire Kings. You for sure run this in anything using mostly FIRE monsters, maybe even 2 copies if you can fit it in. Card is very strong.

Closing the week is a card that is hot in multiple ways, the illustrious Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames, which was mysteriously leaked for Master Duel before its official reveal. Princess is a Link 3 FIRE Fiend Link monster, with good left, right, and down arrows. Princess is extremely generic, taking any two or more Effect monsters, though in practice you’ll want to use a FIRE monster somewhere along the way to summon it. Princess’s attack stat is actually quite high for a Link 3, with 2700 attack being a fair bit above most Link 3 monsters.

Understandably, you can’t Special Summon non-FIRE monsters while you control Princess, so running it outside of FIRE decks unless you have a specific line in mind is a fool’s errand. Other than that, Princess has two hard once per turn effects. The first will let you Special Summon any FIRE monster from your Graveyard. No strings attached, just a simple and clean revive. This effect single-handedly revolutionized Salamangreat combos, since you can revive any FIRE jobber and go straight into Salamangreat Raging Phoenix, ending on at least two disruptions. Outside of Salamangreat, you will usually climb into the previously-obscure Amphibious Swarmship Amblowhale, an odd card that doesn’t do much on its own, but it provides incredible follow-up and serves as a perfect target to be destroyed by Princess’s other effect. That effect is a trigger effect that can be activated if a monster is Special Summoned to your opponent’s field while Princess is in your Graveyard, letting you target and destroy a FIRE monster you control and any monster your opponent controls, Special Summoning itself in the process. Salamangreat understandably weaponizes this very well, as it triggers your first Raging Phoenix and revives it with 5600 attack, while in Snake-Eye decks it’ll put Amblowhale in the Graveyard for follow-up. Fire King can take advantage of the destruction for even more follow-up or to get more value out of Fire King High Avatar Kirin. No effect on Princess goes to waste– it’s an extremely valuable sub-boss monster for any FIRE deck that can make it. You only really need one, though some decks opt to play two or even three copies in case Princess gets zinged by Graveyard disruption, plus with two copies live, you can soft-loop them like Salamangreat Raging Phoenix. Some say Princess will be the first to go to end the FIRE meta, though I think that’s wishful thinking, even if it’s an extremely powerful card.

+Provides almost any FIRE deck with an extender and additional disruption
+Generates constant offensive pressure, especially in decks that benefit from self-destruction
-(?) FIRE lock limits its use outside of FIRE decks (arguably the only thing preventing Princess from being over-the-top)
-Vulnerable to being banished or otherwise disrupted from the Graveyard
