Performage Hat Tricker – #GEIM-EN038

If 2 or more monsters are on the field, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). When a card or effect is activated that would inflict damage to you (Quick Effect): You can place 1 Performage Counter on this card (max. 3), then make that effect damage to you 0. When the 3rd Performage Counter is placed on this card, its ATK/DEF become 3300.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Performage Hat Tricker is our Throwback Thursday choice, and one that fits into this archetype pretty well.

Most decks can get two or more monsters on the field in a turn, so Hat Tricker Special Summon ability is hand for almost any deck in the game. This card is used for Link and Xyz Summons, period. It has that effect with the Performage Counters to beef its ATK/DEF to 3300, but you need to have damage inflicted to you via card effect. In a Performage Deck that may be much easier, but in the Magistus archetype or any archetype that would tech this in that is harder to come by. Regardless of the second effect being inconsequential most of the time, Hat Tricker is a great card for decks that produce tons of offense. In Magistus, they are a body for their Extra Deck summons, filling the material requirement seamlessly.

Good card and splashable in many archetypes outside its own.

Throwback Thursday gives us a nice extender for several Decks, and it’s a Spellcaster for Magistus: Performage Hat Tricker.

Hat Tricker is a Level 4 EARTH Spellcaster with 1100 ATK and DEF. Low stats for Level 4, but EARTH and Spellcaster are both fine. Hat Tricker can be Special Summoned from hand just by the field having 2 or more Monsters, and it isn’t a hard once per turn so you can easily spam 3 of this with zero issue for Rank 4s, Synchros, or Links. When a card or effect is activated that would inflict damage to you, as a Quick Effect you can place a Performage Counter on this (max. 3) and make the damage 0 and when the 3rd Performage Counter is placed on this card, it’s ATK and DEF becomes 3300. It’s not something that comes up ever really, though I’m sure heavy Performage use could make this feasible. Either way, I imagine you use this as material before you can try to make this 3300, but having effect damage negation is fine. It’s a decent card mainly for the first effect, and it’s searchable off of Damage Juggler, so it’s pretty solid.

Advanced Rating: 3.5/5

Art: 3/5 It’s strange, even by Performage standards.

Performage Hat Tricker earns Throwback Thursday honors this week.  Earth, Level 4, Spellcaster (that sounds familiar for this week doesn’t it?) with 1100 attack and defense.  So first is an effect to Special Summon itself from the Hand if two or more Monsters are on the Field.  Note the awesomeness in that where it doesn’t have to be YOU or your opponent, rather two or more, whoever has them.  So this could easily be a first turn Summon (even if you went first).  A Quick Effect lets you take and add a Performage Counter on this guy each time a card or effect would make you take Damage.  This makes said Damage 0.  Only 3 Counters can be on this guy at a time, but 3 said Counters make this guy have 3300 attack and defense, and that’s nothing to scoff at.  He’s definitely a card that can make a splash.  Do you NEED him in Magistus?  Maybe, it probably wouldn’t hurt anything, the near free Special Summon probably makes him an asset at the very least.  The rest is kind of a bonus.

Rating:  3.5/5

Art:  So, he’s got a hat with three points on it…but this guy isn’t scoring (m)any hat tricks I’d venture to guess.  3/5
