When this card is activated: If you control no other cards, you can add 1 “Synchron” monster from your Deck to your hand. Once per turn, during your Standby Phase: Place 1 Signal Counter on this card. You can remove 2 Signal Counters from your field and send this face-up card to the GY; draw 2 cards, then send 1 card from your hand to the GY. This weekend brings us to some 5D’s era throwbacks starting off with a new Continuous Spell for the Synchron archetype: On Your Mark, Get Set, DUEL!

On Your Mark is a Continuous Spell that upon activation, if you control no other cards, you can add a Synchron monster from your Deck to your hand. It’s a nice little consistency boost at the start of a Duel potentially to get you to a Synchron of your choice that you might need to help make all your Synchro plays, especially since we got a few more new Synchrons that are really good coming soon in Battles of Legend and Duelist Nexus. Once per turn, during your Standby Phase, you get to place a Signal Counter on this card, making this the second card (after Signal Warrior) to place Signal Counters, with the third coming soon in Synchro World. Once you got 2 Signal Counters built up on your field, you can remove 2 from any card to send this to the graveyard in order to draw 2 cards and send 1 from your hand to the graveyard. Without Synchro World, this effect is honestly pretty slow considering it takes 2 turns to get 2 Signal Counters on itself, just to be a worse Shard of Greed. Once we get the aforementioned Field Spell, you should be able to use the draw effect the same turn you activate this. You can only activate 1 of these a turn, likely to prevent you from sending copies to the graveyard to activate others and potentially search for more Synchrons. It’s a fine consistency card for Synchrons. It doesn’t replace Tuning at all, but it’s more search power for the start of the Duel and after Duelist Nexus, the draw effect should be much more reliable to pull off. I’d say it’s still worth the space in a Synchron strategy.

Art: 5/5 So the scene here is literally the first episode of 5D’s where Yusei and Trudge prepare for their Turbo Duel. The name of the card in both Japanese and English versions (Riding Duel! Acceleration! and On Your Mark, Get Set, DUEL!) also match the title of the first episode of the show, with the Japanese name being what Yusei normally said before a Turbo Duel. The ability to place Signal Counters references Speed World’s effect to gain counters and the effect to draw 2 and send 1 at the cost of 2 counters is a reference to Speed Spell – Angel Baton, a Speed Spell that Yusei commonly used in Turbo Duels when he had 2 Counters on Speed World.
