A nuclear explosion? In my Magic game? In this day and age, definitely. And it works on every level: the way it effectively destroys all creatures without actually saying “destroy all creatures”, the rad counters, the horrifying art and flavor text (only on the standard version for the latter). It’s definitely worth noting that the rad counters can be built around in a way that helps with the traditional sweeper problem of making nothing happen for long times. It does feel a little strange to be talking about building around a card representing nuclear war and using it to your advantage in a planeswalker duel, but if people can justify Phyrexian cards, I’ll roll with this too.

Nuclear Fallout is rather on the nose, spreading radiation and suffering in equal measure. Believe it or not, this is actually a very on-rate spell; three mana is usually enough for a -2/-2, and four mana for a -4/-4 is likewise on par with Languish. That this scales with twice what you pay can add up quickly, and this will kill a lot of things with a reasonable bit of investment.

This isn’t going to usurp Toxic Deluge in Legacy, which is a flat 3 mana to let you kill everything…but this won’t bleed you out as aggressively, and the radiation counters can help hemorrhage your opponents. It’s a pretty potent spell that would definitely be a force in non-Legacy formats. Even still, this is decent enough as a scalable spell that kills most things you want to die.
