The flavor behind Mechtitan Core is entertaining enough, going from a single head into an engine of slaughter and destruction if you have the pieces to make it. Five mana and four other artifact creatures or vehicles to make it can be a steep price, but considering you make a 10/10 with a crapload of key words, that seems minor. And even if it does get removed, you get most of your pieces back to try again with another Mechtitan Core, though Mechtitan itself is legendary.

This is definitely more a fun card than a powerhouse, though a deck with enough pieces to activate the ability may find some use in using it to break through board stalls. It’s a 10/10 with evasion, though the body of the Core alone is pretty underwhelming, so this is definitely more of a looming threat than an immediate point of pressure in most cases. I think this is probably not a Constructed staple, but the proviso here is that there may well be a Standard that this does damage in, and we’re not terribly far off from that.

Constructed: 3 (maybe optimistic, but I can see it working)
Casual: 4.5
Limited: 4.5 (definitely a build-around, but it’s a beast of one in a set where it can function, and it’s even just at rare)
Multiplayer: 3
Commander [EDH]: 3.5 (takes a bit of effort, but it has good payoff)

Go go Mechtitan Core *insert air guitar here to the theme of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers* and you have Wizards of the Coasts version of a Megazord!  This card is cute and with the right deck you can easily create the Mechtitan with little frustration.  I see this being played in commander where it’s a little easier to have 5 vehicles out, in fact I had this used against me and I had to quickly destroy it before I felt the wrath.

I don’t see this being played in constructed formats outside of commander.  It’s too expensive and Smuggler’s Copter is banned in modern so that leaves out the easy to cast vehicle.  Limited it is a nice build around but again, you have to get lucky and get enough vehicles to make it work!

Mechtitan Core is a happy sight for anybody who ever wanted to make a Power Rangers theme deck (like me!), but also a great update on the Kaldra concept. Working with any artifact creature and/or vehicle is huge, reducing the need to play a whole bunch of tutors to get the right pieces, and allowing you to toss it into a deck with Neon Dynasty‘s artifact ninjas or Kaladesh‘s Servo generators. When decks like that gain the ability to just kill people out of nowhere, it makes them much more dangerous – and interesting, I’d say.
