I must admit to some confusion about how they decided which of Unfinity‘s cards would be legal in Legacy and which wouldn’t. This guy seems like an archetypal Un-card, with all of his doing something that people wouldn’t think the rules could do, and the non-standard stats for a card played as a face-down creature. Yet he’s available to cause damage in tournaments, where some things that seem more straightforward are not. To be fair, the most impactful cards in those tournaments will likely be in blue, and stretching a deck to three colors will add some vulnerability and require a lot of setup. You could use him to recur Lightning Bolt-style cards and speed up your damage-dealing schedule, but I’m not aware of any major Sligh-type decks in Legacy right now. His ability is certainly intriguing, though, and it’ll likely find a niche in casual decks as it’s a way to save mana on big spells.

Morph for instants and sorceries is one of those abilities that has often been bandied about and proposed, and Magar of the Magic Strings is pretty much an enabler for that, albeit with a twist. So long as the spell stays on board as a creature, it can keep attacking and casting…and, as a 3/3, you can get a lot of mileage out of it and just out of turning your graveyard into an army of attackers; so long as you have the mana, Magar of the Magic Strings has a lot of potential. Him being in Rakdos colors is a slight constraint, but there’s a lot of interest to be had here in loading up a graveyard and then bringing it all back to keep casting spells. I think he’s probably a bit too slow for Legacy (Minotaurs are not quite supported enough, and you need a lot of set-up), but there’s a lot of interesting angles to this card that merit exploration.
Constructed: 2 (it has potential, but I’m not optimistic)
