If you’re confused by the story behind this guy, just wait until you see the game states he generates. Because if he’s in your deck, chances are you have several different kinds of card types, which means you’re going to get even more of them into play, and it’s just going to grow out of control in much less time than it takes your group to explain what the heck is going on with Jace and Kellan. He’s obviously intended for Commander and casual formats where the point is as much to show how many weird things you can have in play at once. But I can’t help but note that there are some creatures and artifacts that cost enough mana that you might be able to flood the table with them for little to no cost and then get combos going – think of Cloudstone Curio with Ornithopter-type spells.

The plot device of the story that culminated in Jace somehow returning, as well as a bit of a pun about looking for loot, Loot, the Key to Everything is a sort of value-oriented Temur creature. It can go digging very quickly, for more cards…on its own, it’s an extra “impulse draw” each turn, but if you have other types, it adds up quickly to a pretty deep delve into your library, capping at six. There can be peril in shredding through your cards so quickly…but if you get a lot of cards, your opponents may not have much longer to deal with those piles of cards. This is a potent engine with a bit of support, and while it won’t win you games alone, it turns out that Loot is usually a good thing to have.

Constructed: 3.75 (may be tricky with its color demand, but it represents a lot of card draw)
Casual: 4
Limited: 3.5 (basically one or two extra cards each turn)
Multiplayer: 3
Commander [EDH]: 4
