Hello Pojo Fans,

Galaxy Photon Dragon helps to facilitate Rank 8 summons and boosts your LIGHT monsters.

Generic Rank 4 with generic materials, 2000ATK isn’t that strong when compared to other Rank 4’s with better effects. While it won’t boost its own ATK, GPD boosts all other LIGHT monsters of yours by 500ATK. Plenty of LIGHT monsters within the archetype can get boosted to hold their own better against the Main Deck monsters they’ll face in the game. It would be better if GPD boosted its own ATK as well.

Detach to add or Foolish Burial a Photon or Galaxy monster sets up your graveyard with stuff like Photon Emperor from yesterday, puts something in the grave for Summoner or Cloudragon to summon, or power up Galaxy Brave for the turn. If you Special Summon a LIGHT monster you can make its level 4 or 8 for the turn. This card alongside Summoner can facilitate a Rank 8 Summon easily when involving Photon Emperor or if you start things off with Galaxy Soldier after summoning Galaxy Photon Dragon.

Not the strongest Rank 4, not the best LIGHT Rank monster either. However, Galaxy Photon Dragon is a great companion for your Galaxy and Photon monsters. It boosts their ATK respectably, searches or thins your Deck, and can facilitate Xyz plays. I guess the lower ATK is balanced out by all of that when played in its own archetype.

Midweek brings us to a brand new Rank 4 for the Galaxy/Photon archetype, aptly named Galaxy Photon Dragon.

Galaxy Photon Dragon is a Rank 4 LIGHT Dragon Xyz with 2000 ATK and 0 DEF. ATK stat is fine on a Rank 4, and I do like LIGHT and Dragon together. The materials are any 2 Level 4 monsters, so completely generic. Other LIGHT monsters you control gain 500 ATK, giving a boost to some of your OTK machines or smaller monsters if you want to tribute them to Special Summon your Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon the classic way. The remaining effects are a hard once per turn, first letting you detach a material from this card to add a Photon or Galaxy card from your Deck to your hand, or send it to the graveyard. A Rank 4 searcher for the entire Galaxy and Photon archetype is very good, or sometimes you can just send the monster to the graveyard if you instantly want it there, like Photon Emperor we saw yesterday, or maybe a Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon you intend to revive with Galaxy Knight. Most times you’re searching for the card, and for those classic Level 4 LIGHT strategies, you can search for Galaxy Soldier to get some Cyber Dragon Infinity access. The second effect triggers if a LIGHT monster(s) is Special Summoned to your field, letting you target one of them to make it either Level 4 or 8 for the turn, helping you go into another Rank 4 or a Rank 8 play much easier. Galaxy Photon Dragon is easily the best Rank 4 that goes to the Galaxy/Photon archetype, and they already had some pretty decent Rank 4s. This just feels like one you don’t want to go without.

As if Galaxy-Eyes needed another searcher (not that we are complaining), Galaxy Photon Dragon arrives, a Rank 4 LIGHT Dragon Xyz monster, which is pretty normal for Galaxy-Eyes, and being a Dragon is almost never bad. Its materials are completely generic, only taking two level 4 monsters, so it should be pretty easy to make in any deck that can make Rank 4s, though naturally it’s most useful in its home deck. 2000 attack should be pretty standard, since Galaxy-Eyes support cards love 2000 attack, though having a whopping 0 defense means it’s pretty much relegated to being a combo piece.

While it’s on the field, all of your other LIGHT monsters will gain 500 attack; it’s a neat bonus and can help your bosses run over stronger boss monsters, though it usually won’t be too important. Galaxy Photon’s other two effects are both hard once per turns, the first detaching an Xyz material to search any Galaxy or Photon card or send it to the Graveyard. No bones about how useful this effect is; you can grab pretty much any combo piece you’re missing. In terms of immediate value, this’ll let you dump Photon Emperor and immediately summon it, among other things, or search Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon itself, since Galaxy Photon will provide one tribute fodder to summon it (not highly recommended). The other effect triggers if you Special Summon any number of LIGHT monsters, letting you target one of them and make it level 4 or 8. This effect is pretty versatile, since it’ll let you make any of your level 4 guys level 8 to make your big Xyz, or make one of your level 8 guys level 4 if you really needed to for some reason. While it’s not the one card starter Galaxy-Eyes needs, it is a huge boost in consistency at least, so you’ll definitely want to incorporate it into almost all of your combos.
