This card has been getting a lot of attention because there are so many ways nowadays to put a whole lot of lands into play. Once upon a time, you would have been restricted to about one Zombie token per turn; in 2019, you can Scapeshift four of these into play and suddenly be miles ahead, even in a multiplayer game. That combo’s going to be in Standard for a little while, so make the most of it!

An interesting piece for land-based decks, Field of the Dead is a way to turn a potential land flood into a horde of Zombies. The effects do stack with one another (so you get multiple Zombies if you control multiple copies), but the challenge is in trying to assemble enough lands to turn this on. It’s a slow land that only produces colorless mana, meaning it lives and dies by its triggered ability; seven unique lands is a lot, though, as most decks won’t usually have enough out unless they’re heavy in multiple colors. And a deck like that, of course, is one that might have less use for a slow, colorless-producing land.

Field of the Dead can be powerful, and it’s one that can be abused if you get the right set-up, but this is a bit too clunky to make a consistent deck out of it.
