Fable of the Mirror-Breaker is one of Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty‘s numerous callbacks to the original block, and it’s one of the most powerful of those. It starts off being about incremental advantages and synergies, but when they all come together, the results are surprisingly explosive. While the Reflection of Kiki-Jiki doesn’t go infinite quite as easily as its famous ancestor does, the saga’s previous chapters should have helped you set up something interesting to do. It also becomes more of a threat the longer a Fable-powered game goes on: you’ll cast bigger creatures, possibly powered by multiple extra Treasure tokens, and even copying just once a turn can be overwhelming when you’re throwing it all directly at the opponent’s face.

This card was 9th on my Top Ten list.

Fable of the Mirror-Breaker is maybe a bit less subtle than the previous entry of this list, a clear reference to one of the original Kamigawa block’s most infamous creatures. Beyond lore, though, Fable of the Mirror-Breaker is just solid value, making a treasure-scrounging Goblin and letting you loot before flipping into a nerfed version of the infamous Kiki-Jiki. That said, a nerfed Kiki-Juki is still plenty potent, and if your opponents don’t remove it then and there, you’ll be able to capitalize on your next turn by multiplying your army into a more horrifying array of friends. And, of course, that body it brought at the start of the saga is a more than valid target to be duplicated. This is a plenty powerful card aided by a flexible mana cost, and it’s more than shown its worth in the year since its release.

Constructed: 4.75
Casual: 5
Limited: 4.75 (it can make you the army to win the game on its own)
Multiplayer: 3.5
Commander: 3.75
