Hello Pojo Fans,

Diviner of the Herald begins a Fairy Week, and the first full week of June on Pojo.

When I first read Diviner’s effect, I immediately thought Herald of the Arc Light and Elder Entity N’tss. Sending Arc Light nets you Ritual support, while sending N’tss will pop a card on the field, making Diviner a potential searcher or spot removal card rather than just a Foolish Burial. Increasing Diviner’s level by the monster it sends lends great support to a Ritual deck, making Diviner a one-monster tribute for a Ritual Summon, while adjusting its level slightly will allow for some Synchro and Xyz play. Diviner’s second effect makes it seem destined for Ritual decks though. Special Summon a Level 2 or lower Fairy from hand or deck if tributed…yup, Ritual strategy. As long as the Ritual Spell says “tribute” you’re in business not only to get a Foolish Burial off the summon of Diviner, but also a free Special Summon off Diviner being tributed. Any Herald monster can be summoned off Diviner, making it a perfect fit for that deck. Some Fluffal monsters can be summoned off of Diviner being tributed, and while you’d have to work that into the Fluffal strategy, it isn’t out of the question for Diviner to become a tech card for that archetype. Mokey Mokey finally gets another way to summon itself from the deck (shout out to a former player I knew who collected them), and even Trickstar could used Diviner especially with it working specifically with Fairy monsters for both effects.

Really helps Ritual decks that run Fairy monsters, can be a fun card if using it only for N’tss.

We basically got everything new before this and Lightning Overdrive is now out, so we can review the cards just after release, and we’ll start with what is arguably the best card in the set: Diviner of the Herald.

Diviner of the Herald is a Level 2 LIGHT Fairy Tuner with 500 ATK and 300 DEF. Stats are never the strong point to lower Level monsters, but it has some good stuff going for it with LIGHT and Fairy. Upon this card being Normal or Special Summoned, you can send any Fairy monster from the Deck or Extra Deck to the graveyard to increase this card’s Level by the Level of the sent monster’s until the end of the turn. Level modulation is nice, but the important part is sending any Fairy. Trias Hierachia might be the best Fairy in Deck to send off this right now, unless you wanted to revive something or you’re playing Darklords potentially. From the Extra Deck, you can send Herald of the Arc Light to search Ritual cards or send Elder Entity N’tss for a pop. Some overall good options, and as for Trias Hierachia, it works well to tribute Diviner since doing such lets Diviner trigger its effect to summon any Level 2 or lower LIGHT Fairy from the hand or Deck, besides another Diviner of course. Free access to any smaller Fairy monster seems nice. Solfachord recently came out and I’m sure they’ll love to summon Cutia from Deck. Not a lot comes to my head for this in terms of Fairies. The Agent of Mystery – Earth only triggers its search on Normal Summon as I remember, and of course you can’t summon Diviner as mentioned. Either way, there’s a lot here on paper that could wait to be better. It’s still pretty good for right now, especially in anything Ritual-related. Drytron is going to love this update. Now, as always you got two HOPTs on these effects, which is fair. Still a great card.

Art: 4/5 Seems somewhat nice, different from the other Heralds just being color mainly.

Clearly based solely on art, this card gets a 5/5.  Next?

Seriously though, a new week opens with Diviner of the Herald.  Light/Fairy, Level 2, 500/300, and an added bonus of being a Tuner.  A Fairy dump from your Deck or Extra Deck is amazing.  (Dumping Fairies; not just for Lightsworn, remember) and it’s an optional effect too.  There are times where you may choose not to send anything.  It isn’t always practical.  But doing so greatly assists on your Extra Deck plays.  The Level of this Monster changes for the rest of Turn.  Adding the Level of the Monster you chose to dump to this could give you a very high Level Tuner, and quite quickly.  But it works for XYZ and Link too, even if Sunchro seems to be the given, already being a Tuner.  Plus she replaced herself with another Fairy (Level 2 or below) from your Hand or Deck when Tributed.  Not herself, which will annoy me in perpetuity across Yugioh, but it’s still a great card to start the week.
