This is a thing in Doctor Who? I love dinosaurs and I like spaceships, so maybe I should be watching Doctor Who. Aside from that, though, I also think this card is an interesting example of how some later suspend cards have been designed, not just in the Doctor Who decks but also in Modern Horizons sets. The original cards from Time Spiral tended to be at a bad rate if you didn’t use their suspend costs, but many of the later ones are more reasonable either way. Dinosaurs on a Spaceship is a great example of that, because as a suspended card you get an army and a lord in just one card, but it’s still a game-endingly efficient threat if you cast it for its normal cost, not to mention buffing any other dinosaurs you cast on-curve. And I think they were might have been signaling for us to look for crossovers with existing or future dinosaur decks by starting Lost Caverns of Ixalan previews so soon after this card came out. (Either that, or the new product conveyor belt is just that out of control.)

I feel like a lot of the whimsy of the Doctor Who cards masks how well they play together. Dinosaurs on a Spaceship is in that slot; while it’s an okay tribal lord at six mana, it benefits from being able to build the army before you cast it…and, as it turns out, there are ways to make this pop better (like Ecstatic Beauty, from earlier this week). There’s a lot this does for Dinosaurs as a tribe (and is even in their colors rather cleanly), and I definitely think it helps Dinosaurs by being an army, a threat, and an army-boosting threat on one card. Nowhere near good enough for Legacy, but not every card can make it there, and Dinosaur decks like having the ability to go large and wide at the same time.
