Hello Pojo Fans,

Aussa the Earth Channeler is another form of Aussa of the “Charmer” archetype (how many of each do we have now)?

Anyways, always treat Aussa as a “Charmer” lending her the support of the archetype, that’s encouraging, however her stats are not. Level 5 isn’t good for summoning if you only have 1850ATK. She is meant to be discard alongside another EARTH monster to add an EARTH from the deck. The discarded monster alongside Aussa needs to match the monster you search…even more restrictions. She is a “Charmer” searcher, being limited to 1850ATK or less. There are other EARTH monsters that can be searched, but there are better ways of searching them within their own archetypes. Aussa locks you into EARTH monsters for the turn for using effects, which prevents you from using other “Charmer” monsters to search out better Charmers…seems counterproductive.

Special Summon ability off an EARTH monster’s destruction by battle, should be any kind of destruction or even “leaves the field” because Level 5 1850ATK is hardly overpowering.

Aussa fits with the “Charmer” themes and stat line, but seems to fit better as a tech in an EARTH-focused strategy. There are many archetypes that are and could use her, and wouldn’t be too restricted by her locking them into EARTH effects for the turn. The question is if the archetype would have enough to balance the -1 you’ll take, and if there aren’t more direct ways already to search out what Aussa can search.

Advanced-3/5- Because she is splashable in a lot of archetypes and COULD be useful

Finally reach Power of the Elements and as is tradition, we start with some of the best generic cards, so here’s Aussa the Earth Channeler.

Aussa is a Level 5 EARTH Spellcaster with 1850 ATK and 1500 DEF. Stats aren’t great for Level 5, but EARTH was well supported recently and it’s always a plus to be a Spellcaster. First little bit always treats this as a Charmer card, cause this is basically Aussa the Earth Charmer grown up. First effect lets you discard this card and an EARTH monster to add any EARTH monster with 1850 or less ATK from your Deck to your hand whose original Type is the same as that of one of the discarded monsters, also you cannot activate non-EARTH monster effects for the rest of the turn. So the search is pretty nice first off, as going lower than 1850 should give you a wide range of decent EARTH monsters. They make sure you search a monster with the same Type as a monster you discard, mainly cause giving the Attributes these generic searchers can be an issue. The ability to not be able to use non-EARTH monster effects the rest of the turn is fine since any you’d want to use I’d imagine you’d do first, and if you’re playing an EARTH Deck, you aren’t likely to have a ton of non-EARTH monsters to begin with. Second effect triggers when an EARTH monster is destroyed in battle, Special Summoning this card from the hand. I don’t think you’ll do this often as if you’re playing it, it’s most likely to search an EARTH monster. It’d be nice if it could revive itself from the graveyard, but I guess if you aren’t going to let the WIND one revive itself under the same condition, you won’t let the better Attributes do so either. This is a bit more restrictive on the search than Wynn’s Channeler was since that one didn’t care for the Type of monster you searched, but again WIND is the worst Attribute, so I get making the other Attributes more restrictive. Aussa is still nice for EARTH-centric strategies and I’m sure something can make use of her, but expect the restrictions to get tighter the better the Attribute of these Channelers get.

Happy Labor Day y’all!  This week opens up with Aussa the Earth Channeler.  Level 5, Earth/Spellcaster, but only 1850/1500 on the stat line, a bit paltry for its Level.  (So we see this is always treated as a Charmer card, benefitting for the support therein, which is cool).  Discarding this and another Earth Monster lets you fetch an Earth Monster from your Deck to your Hand, so long as it also has 1850 atk or less, and has to be a Type that matches one of the Monsters you discarded.  Simple enough there, even though you are going -1 in this, at least initially, with discarding 2 to retrieve 1, but cards straight from the Deck like this are always a welcome addition.  This card can also be Special Summoned from your Hand whenever any of your Earth Monsters happen to be destroyed.  That’s your money Effect right there folks.  Being able to drop a Level 5 that easily is great, and both Effects are, naturally, once per Turn.  The first part probably shouldn’t, or at least, doesn’t need to be, but the latter Effect I agree with.  She’s a combo card for the Deck, to get your pieces and add to your Field presence.

Had to take a break to catch up on school, but we’re back to cover perhaps the most polarizing set of 2022, Power of the Elements, starting with some of the set’s one off cards. Aussa the Earth Channeler starts the week, being a level 5 EARTH Spellcaster monster, not unlike its Familiar-Possessed counterpart (albeit one level higher). It even shares its stat spread of 1850 attack and 1500 defense, which are honestly quite bad for a level 5 monster, but it does give it synergy with Charmer support cards. Fittingly, Aussa is also considered a Charmer monster, hammering in that you can use it in Charmer decks if you really want to.

Both of Aussa’s effects are a hard once per turn and are quite similar to Wynn the Wind Channeler, with a key difference for the search. By discarding Aussa and another EARTH monster, you can search any EARTH monster with less than 1850 attack that is also the same type as the EARTH monster you discarded, at the cost of being unable to activate the effects of non-EARTH monsters that turn. Bizarrely, this is more restrictive than Wynn’s restriction, which I suppose makes sense, given that EARTH is overall a more powerful attribute. Despite this, pretty much any of the EARTH Machine decks out there can use Aussa, such as Ancient Gear, Machina, Infinitrack, and Trains, since they’re naturally homogenous. Pure Zoodiac decks can also make use of Aussa as they’re all EARTH Beast-Warriors, though you won’t be able to use Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder immediately due to the restriction. Aussa’s other effect is virtually identical to Wynn’s, letting you Special Summon it from your hand if your EARTH monster is destroyed by battle. This won’t come up often, but it might buy you some time in a jam; it’s more relevant in Charmer decks to help swarm and replace a destroyed Aussa. Overall, while the additional restriction is weird, Aussa is still a decent generic searcher for some EARTH decks as long as they don’t have different types.

Advanced: 3.5/5

Art: 4.25/5 Another swing and hit for the Channeler series, I love that they have both of their familiars this time around.
