Xyz Armor Fortress – #AGOV-EN040

2 Level 5 monsters
Once per turn, you can also Xyz Summon “Xyz Armor Fortress” by using 1 Rank 3 or 4 Xyz Monster you control. (Transfer its materials to this card.) Cannot be used as material for an Xyz Summon while it has material. Once per turn: You can detach up to 2 materials from this card; add “Armored Xyz” cards with different names from your Deck to your hand, equal to the number detached. If a monster equipped with this card battles a monster, any battle damage it inflicts to your opponent is doubled.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Remember what I said yesterday about Xyz climbing? Yup, here that comes with Xyz Armor Fortress.

Generic Level 5 monsters needed for its summon, or just use a Rank 3 or 4 that you control, which is much, much easier. Once you’ve done that, you’ve got a Rank 5 that, while it has the same ATK as yesterday’s Rank 3 and most popular Rank 4’s, Armor Fortress can search through a double detach an “Armored Xyz” card from the Deck. If you detach both you get a double search, so you only may need to detach one. Useful because you likely ranked up from Torpedo which means you won’t have materials other than Torpedo attached to Fortress and you’ll be searching a Spell or Trap that will attach Torpedo as an Equip Spell to give Fortress all that great protection.

Armor Fortress has the same ability to become an Equip Spell like Torpedo and when it does it grants the equipped monster double damage inflicted on the opponent. Not as good as Torpedo locking out effects during the battle, and the damage is only doubled when you battle a monster. We’re building layers here, meaning Fortress and Torpedo are meant to be equipped together on an even higher Rank monster, who will have a better effect than this.

Fortress gets you to a card and it is useful in terms of the archetype. It will put Torpedo where it needs to be and a search is a search. Armored Xyz is the Spell you’re searching, because it’s faster than tomorrow’s card, being a Trap. Armored Xyz may not offer what Full-Armored Xyz offers, but it is faster and does equip an Xyz as an Equip Spell for you to get things going faster. Either search will help you.

Xyz Armor Torpedo immediately goes into Xyz Armor Fortress, a Rank 5 WATER Machine Xyz monster (curiously, not a Warrior) with generic materials of two level 5 monsters, though you’ll almost never do this, even if Shark decks can do it easily they’d rather make Armor Torpedo first. Fortress has the same attack as Torpedo with a decent though low stat of 2500 for a Rank 5, and it gets an extra 1000 defense from Torpedo for a still poor but better defense stat of 1800.

Fortress can be Xyz Summoned once per turn using any Rank 3 or 4 monster, taking its materials as well. This is why it’s vital that Torpedo gets rid of both of its materials, as Fortress can’t be used as Xyz material if it has any. Fortress’s sole activated soft once per turn effect lets you detach up to two Xyz materials to search that many Armored Xyz cards from your deck. You only really need to detach one to get to Full-Armored Xyz, but if you really care about advantage, you can rank up Fortress off of Black Ray Lancer for an essential +3 (just be mindful of the Xyz material restriction). Lastly, while equipped to a monster, Fortress doubles any battle damage it inflicts when battling a monster, which again is great for the archetype’s boss as it can reach ludicrous stats. Not much else to say, other than it being an obvious but great stepping stone, though that does make it a sitting duck for Effect Veiler and Infinite Impermanence.

+Great searcher, OTK enabler, and combo piece
-Vulnerable to disruption
-Xyz material restriction to Rank Up can be annoying

Next up we Rank Up into Xyz Armor Fortress.

Fortress is a Rank 5 WATER Machine Xyz with 2500 ATK and 1800 DEF. Solid stats for a Rank 5, WATER is great, and Machine is pretty strong. Materials are any 2 Level 5 monsters, or you can Xyz Summon it using a Rank 3 or 4 monster you control as material, so super generic. It cannot be used for an Xyz Summon while it has material, which is a downer. To get those materials off, you can detach up to 2 materials from this card once per turn to add a number of Armored Xyz cards with different names from your Deck to your hand equal to the number detached. So to get this out of materials, you got to really hope to summon it with just a single material for now since there’s only 1 legal target in the TCG, with the second one coming soon. It’s a good search for your Armored Xyz cards to get to where you want to be with this stuff if you’re playing it to begin with. It’s easy to summon it with a lone material though since a bunch of Xyz Monsters can easily use all their materials at once or you got ways to summon Xyz Monsters with none or a single material to detach before summoning this. If a monster equipped with this card battles, any battle damage it does is doubled when battling an opponent’s monster, which should get some good damage in. Xyz Armor Fortress is better than Torpedo since it gets you what you need for an Armored Xyz engine for Xyz strategies. You got to work around the restriction of not being able to use this as Xyz Material while it still has its own, but that should get easier when we get the 2nd target to search with this. If you want to play the Armored Xyz cards, play this for sure.
