Volcanic Blaze Accelerator – #LD10-EN021

Activate this card by sending 1 “Blaze Accelerator” from your hand, Deck, or face-up field to the GY. You can only control 1 “Volcanic Blaze Accelerator”. Once per turn, during your Main Phase: You can Special Summon 1 “Volcanic” monster from your hand. Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; send 1 Level 1 Pyro monster from your Deck to the GY, and if you do, destroy that monster.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Volcanic Blaze Accelerator is another “Blaze Accelerator” card to play within the archetype.

The new Blaze Accelerator sends the original to the grave no matter where it may be, potentially thinning the Deck or at the very least getting something out of your hand, though if it hadn’t been played you sure were going to play it. Special Summon a Volcanic from the hand helps with getting bigger Volcanic monsters like Hammer to the field, but also helps to summon Volcanic Trooper and Volcanic Rocket in the same turn. This is a better version of the original Blaze Accelerator, as it won’t stop you from attacking this turn, as well as encompassing sending a Level 1 Pyro from your Deck instead of to your hand. Play this, send Blaze Accelerator to the grave, then send Scattershot from the Deck to the grave, then the other two to clear the field and go from there. You don’t even have to waste a summon doing this and it can be a back-breaking move. While we aren’t reviewing Volcanic Rimfire, it can be send with VBA and then can place another Blaze Accelerator to the field, thinning your Deck more and giving you another destruction option if you hadn’t done your Scattershots yet.

Volcanic Blaze Accelerator may only be once per turn, while the original is as many times as you have targets, but the Special Summon is a nice addition to it, as well as providing fodder for Volcanic Emperor’s summon (Friday’s CoTD). No reason to run Tri-Blaze or Blaze Accelerator Reload I think anymore.

It wouldn’t be Volcanic support without at least 1 new Blaze Accelerator, and now we got one that’s also a Volcanic card: Volcanic Blaze Accelerator.

Volcanic Blaze Accelerator is a Continuous Spell you must send Blaze Accelerator from your hand, field, or Deck to the graveyard to activate, which means you have to run the original as a brick since sadly this can’t send Blaze Accelerator Reload. You can at least try to activate this with Rimfire as well if you got a different Blaze Accelerator card in the graveyard. You can only control 1 of this, which is fine. First effect is a soft once per turn to Special Summon a Volcanic monster from your hand, which helps make sure you can summon both Volcanic Trooper and Volcanic Rocket in the same turn. Second effect is another soft once per turn, letting you target a face-up monster the opponent controls to send a Level 1 Pyro from your Deck to the graveyard in order to destroy it, which is a way to get Volcanic Shell into the graveyard to search and you can easily give the opponent a monster with Trooper being able to summon that Bomb Token. You could also send Rimfire to cycle Blaze Accelerators or get a Volcanic you want in the graveyard. Volcanic Blaze Accelerator is a solid card to help make more plays in the Deck. You want a few copies of this alongside the required copy of Blaze Accelerator to activate it.

Volcanic at last gets a formal crossover between itself and its associated subarchetype (Blaze Accelerator) with the aptly-named Volcanic Blaze Accelerator, a Continuous Spell just like the original Blaze Accelerator, and accordingly you can search it with both Volcanic Trooper and Volcanic Rocket. To activate it, you’ll have to send the original Blaze Accelerator from your hand or deck to the Graveyard; requiring a brick (since the original Blaze Accelerator is less-than-ideal) stings a little, but at least it’s not a garnet, and Blaze Accelerator still sets up their new boss monster in the Graveyard. You can only control one VBA at a time, which makes sense since both of its effects are soft once per turn. VBA’s first effect is pretty simple, letting you Special Summon any Volcanic monster from your hand. This is an easy way to extend for Link plays, though tragically it can’t summon their new boss (which, granted, summons itself anyway!). The other effect is the main meat of the card, letting you send a level 1 Pyro monster from your deck to the Graveyard (for effect) to target and destroy one face-up monster your opponent controls. In addition to being a pretty neat boardbreaker, it’s also an essential combo piece since you likely grabbed it off of Volcanic Trooper, which conveniently spawns a token to destroy. Most of the time you’ll send Volcanic Rimfire due to it also being an excellent combo piece that sets up their new boss monster, but the original Volcanic Shell is also an acceptable target if you really need hand advantage for some reason. VBA was a little controversial due to needing a brick, but it’s still an essential card; you’ll need at least 1 copy! I don’t advise playing more since additional copies are useless without Blaze Accelerator around, but they can save you in a jam if Trooper gets negated.
