Toon Harpie Lady
– #TOCH-EN002

Cannot attack the turn it is Summoned. If you control “Toon World”: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, then, if you control another Toon monster, you can destroy 1 Spell/Trap your opponent controls. You can only use this effect of “Toon Harpie Lady” once per turn. While you control “Toon World” and your opponent controls no Toon monsters, this card can attack directly.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Toon Harpie Lady starts off our Toon Week on CoTD and is one of the newest Toon support cards we’ve gotten recently.

Toons always can use more monsters, especially ones that can be Normal Summoned, even though she can Special Summon herself. Can’t attack when summoned condition many toons have which holds back their potential. Toon Harpie provides something toons have been long missing: removal power. Spot spell/trap removal in monster form has been sorely needed and now they have it. Even though Toon Harpie can’t attack when summoned, her ability to pop a spell/trap once per turn is something to consider when deciding to run her or not. You can Special Summon toon monsters, so having one for Toon Harpie’s requirement won’t be an issue. Attacking directly does play a part due to her small stat line if you summon her on like your opponent’s turn and are free to attack on your turn, but can’t get rid of their monster(s).

I could see builds running three of her, or none of her, depending on the strategy. I think running at least one would be wise though.

Time to finally get into Toon Chaos and take a gander at the new Toons by starting with the new Level 4: Toon Harpie Lady.

Toon Harpie Lady is a Level 4 WIND Winged Beast Toon with 1300 ATK and 1400 DEF. Low stats, but it matches the old Harpie Lady so I can’t expect different, but WIND and Winged Beast goes together well. First get the regular Toon stuff out of the way. Can’t attack the turn it’s summoned and can attack directly while you control Toon World and the opponent controls no Toon monsters. Regular things, summoning sickness is still a downer, but free direct attack for 1300 is great. The thing that makes Toon Harpie Lady special is the effect to Special Summon itself if you control Toon World and then add an additional pop of an opponent’s Spell or Trap if you control a Toon after Special Summoned. A free body on board is nice for Extra Deck plays or to have tribute fodder to Special or Tribute Summon the bigger Toons. A pop of a Spell/Trap is classic Harpie stuff and I’m glad it’s on here to give Toons some Spell/Trap removal. The Special Summon effect is a hard once per turn, which is fine I guess. Toon Harpie Lady helps Toons get more bodies on board, so it is worthwhile in Toons. Nice card.

New Toons eh?  Toon Harpie Lady kicks things off.  All the same stats as her non-Toon counterpart.  Most of which still isn’t great.  Winged-Beast is much more supported these days (Wind is too).

The fun part is seeing what effects get added to these Vanilla once were cards.  Destroying a Magic/Trap upon Special Summon is good.  It fits the Harpie theme of today and is dependent on you controlling other Toons.

The rest is the standard Toon text.  But the added destruction effect is nice.  It doesn’t make 1300 on a Level 4 any better but she could be a useful enough player in a Toon Deck.
