This card is a little funny to me, because I’ve always thought of Diabolic Edict as being a good card. Back in the day, getting around untargetability or protection effects gave the original a recurring role in sideboards; but of course, modern Magic has much more diverse threats and many more types of them. You still need to get around untargetability and protection occasionally, so Sheoldred’s Edict is at least as powerful in the current context as its famous ancestor was in its. Maybe more so, considering it still works in the deceptively common situation where an opponent has one big creature and four Saproling tokens.

Casual: 4.5
Limited: 4.5
Multiplayer: 4.5 (it adds up to mass removal in deceptively many situations)

Sheoldred’s Edict may, in a sense, be the most powerful version of an “Edict” effect as we’ve ever seen. It lets you force a sacrifice of one of three particular types of things: token creature, nontoken creature, or planeswalker, and it hits all opponents for two mana. The ability to change what you’re looking to hit is massive, letting you bypass a common “out” to Edicts in your opponent just giving up a token creature of minor relevance, and the flexibility of this card doesn’t even harm its mana cost. It’s not as good as pinpoint removal in most cases, but there are plenty of cases where this will be better (as fewer things are immune to forced sacrifice), and while this isn’t perfect, it’s still a phenomenal bit of removal at a great rate of return.

Constructed: 4.5
Casual: 4.75
Limited: 4.5
Multiplayer: 4.5 (hitting everyone is great, and while you only get one mode, this will usually prove enough if you have a good mode)
Commander [EDH]: 4.5
