Scrambleverse follows in the footsteps of Ravnica: City of Guilds‘ (in)famous Warp World – the big sorcery where something crazy is guaranteed to happen, but you don’t know what. It’s also the inverse of some of our other cards this week: a “mainline” card that wouldn’t have seemed out of place in Unglued or Unhinged.

Cards like this have a devoted following, but it’s worth noting that Warp World can be built around so you’re likely to get more out of it than your opponent/s, and it’s not possible to guarantee that with Scrambleverse. Still, I don’t think you play cards like this because you just want to generate an advantage. Note that depending on how late in the game and how many things are in play, it can take minutes to assign everyone their new permanents, so plan accordingly (and make sure everyone’s having a good time!).

In the spirit of insanity, Scrambleverse can certainly deliver; randomly assigning permanents to other players can make for a lot of shenanigans, especially if you get lucky with the allocation, since everything untaps. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to attack with anything unless you already controlled it or it has haste, but if you get lucky, you might be able to use those freshly untapped lands for a massive swing in tempo. At eight mana, this is a bit of a “Hail Mary” play you should never consider in Constructed, but if the game’s going badly for you and you have the mana, why not try to swing things by creating a little chaos?

Constructed: 1
Casual: 4
Limited: 2
Multiplayer: 3 (use with caution)
Commander [EDH]: 3 (same applies here)
