Hello Pojo Fans,

Raidraptor – Brave Strix is the first of two Xyz Monsters we’re looking at this week…is there any other archetype that has more Xyz Monsters than Raidraptor?

Two Level 5 monsters to Xyz Summon Brave Strix and there are no Level 5 Raidraptor monsters in the archetype so of course you’ll need to jump using a Rank-Up Spell either one Rank with something like Astral Force for a Rank 3 you control or Magic Raid Force on a Rank 4…or just Xyz Summon Raider’s Knight and detach a material to get to Brave Strix, that would be your easiest way. If you were to attach Brave Strix to a Raidraptor Xyz Monster through the use of another Rank-Up Spell it will give them an ATK boost, though it is only marginal: Rank x 100.

Brave Strix is another Raidraptor Spell/Trap or Rank-Up Spell searcher at the cost of a material. While you’d like to keep at many materials attached as possible for your higher Rank monsters, the ability to search any Rank-Up will get you to whatever Xyz Monster you want, depending on the state of the game. You need a Winged Beast attached to Brave Strix to search a Rank-Up-Magic but you aren’t using anything else in the archetype that would cause this restriction to be a concern. There’s about nine Rank-Up-Magic Spells to search from that fit within the Raidraptor archetype and any of them can improve your field situation. When it comes to Brave Strix, Raid Force will jump you to a Rank 6, Astral Force to a Rank 7, and while it’s situational, Doom Double Force can jump this to a Rank 10 if it were searched and then destroyed by battle and sent to the graveyard.

As for searching a Raidraptor Spell/Trap, Raidraptor Call can Special Summon another copy of a Main Deck Raidraptor from the hand or Deck in defense, but you’re likely searching tomorrows card: Rise Rank-Up-Magic Raidraptor’s Force.

Raidraptor Brave Strix isn’t going to be sticking around, much like most lower Rank Raidraptor monsters. Make it easy on yourself and Xyz Summon Raider’s Knight to go into this card and then detach to get to your Rank-Up-Magic Spell to get to at the least a Rank 6. You can always manipulate levels on the field using Noir Lanius, but that requires another card and why do that if you can just summon Bloom Vulture, Special Summon another Level 4 Raidraptor because of them, and Xyz Summon Raider’s Knight to jump into Brave Strix?

Raidraptors get a 3rd Rank 5 to Rank-Up into now, and this one helps make more plays compared to the other two: Raidraptor – Brave Strix.

Brave Strix is a Rank 5 DARK Winged Beast Xyz with 2000 ATK and 2500 DEF. A strong ATK buff from Force Strix’s 100 ATK, and we keep DARK/Winged Beast. Materials are any 2 Level 5 monsters, which this new support can allow Raidraptors to achieve if you don’t use a Rank-Up-Magic or Raider’s Knight to summon this. A Raidraptor Xyz with this card as material gains the effect to gain 100 ATK times its own Rank, giving a decent ATK boost depending on how big the bird is. The remaining effects you can only choose one of per turn, and only once that turn. The first effect lets you detach a material from this card to set any Raidraptor Spell/Trap directly from the Deck, giving you access to some consistency with Nest and Roost, some of the Rank-Up-Magics, and some disruption with Barrage. The other effect can be used if it has a Winged Beast as material, letting you detach a material to search for a Rank-Up-Magic instead. I get the restriction since you do want to be careful with searching Rank-Up-Magics. A lot of times this might be the preferred effect if you need to use your Xyzs to keep going beyond to make your plays or setup the end board. If you got Wise Strix to get you to the Rank-Up-Magic you need, then you might go for the Raidraptor card more often at least. It’s another consistency card to get to what you need, plus you do need a Rank 5 with the new Rank-Up-Magic to help make your new boss monster, so having a copy or two is recommended.

(This is another retroactive review.)

Raidraptor – Brave Strix joins the Raidraptor repertoire as a Rank 5 DARK Winged Beast Xyz monster. Brave Strix takes any two level 5 monsters, though for relatively obvious reasons there’s no real point in making it outside of Raidraptor. Since making it manually is almost impossible in-house, you’re meant to Rank up into it through either a Rank-Up-Magic Spell or, much more easily, through Raider’s Knight, which instantly makes it off of any 2 level 4 Raidraptors (neat!). Brave Strix’s stats are solid for a Rank 4, wit h2000 attack and 2500 defense, though as we’ll see, it won’t be sticking around for long.

While it’s an Xyz material for a Raidraptor monster, that monster gains 100 attack for each of its Ranks, which makes for a very hefty boost on Raidraptor’s high-Rank boss monsters. Bizarrely, like Bloom Vulture, Brave Strix also has two hard once per turn effects on a one per turn, which is a shame because both are extremely good. Brave Strix can detach a material to set any Raidraptor Spell or Trap from your deck. If you don’t need the other effect, you can use this effect to grab Raidraptor – Roost for recycling power, which will also grab Raidraptor – Glorious Bright for a cheap omni negate; alternatively, you can grab tomorrow’s card, though I can’t imagine why you’d want to when Wise Strix will grab it later. Brave Strix’s more important effect is its other one, which can only be used if it has a Winged Beast as a material; it’ll detach a material to search any Rank-Up-Magic Spell. Again, you could be crazy and search tomorrow’s card, but you’ll usually search Rank-Up-Magic Skip Force, which will immediately turn Brave Strix into Raidraptor – Arsenal Falcon, directly leading into your bread and butter endboard of Raidraptor – Ultimate Falcon and the deck’s new boss. All of Brave Strix’s effects are great, even if only one of them is important– having flexible cards is always welcome.

+Versatile set of effects for searching needs
+Attack boost makes new boss even more threatening
-Can’t use both detach effects despite both being useful
