Hello Pojo Fans,

Preparation of Rites is the Throwback Thursday choice and something you’d probably use in the Mikanko archetype despite there only being one Ritual Monster currently.

A 1-for-1 at the worst, +1 at best double search that gets you to any of your Ritual Monsters and any of your Ritual Spells. Ritual Monster from the Deck, Ritual Spell from the grave, meaning you can’t hot shot this card first turn without having at least gotten a Ritual Spell in the grave. Even if you use it only to get your Ritual Monster from your Deck you are getting what you want. This was the kind of card that should have came out when Ritual Monsters debuted in the game so very long ago. This is the gold standard for Ritual decks and I can’t see you playing a Ritual Deck without this card unless it was all Level 8 or above Ritual Monsters.

Not really much else to say about this card. It gets you what you want, can get you something extra, has a wide-reaching ability for many archetypes, and legitimized Ritual Decks. A timeless Spell.

Throwback Thursday this week could of been either classic Equip Spell support or Ritual support, so we’re going with the latter to look at Preparation of Rites.

Preparation of Rites is a Normal Spell that lets you add any Level 7 or lower Ritual Monster from your Deck to your hand, then you can add a Ritual Spell from your graveyard to your hand. An instant way to search for any lower Level Ritual is pretty nice if you already got the Ritual Spell and the requirements to summon said Ritual, but even if you might not have the Spell already in hand, this can at the very least recover one you already used. It’s a massive consistency piece for most Ritual strategies just as long as they got Rituals with lower Levels, and it helps some Ritual Monsters you might not be able to search with Pre-Preparation of Rites become searchable, though you can’t guarantee a Ritual Spell in this case. Either way, great card for Rituals and a must for said Decks running Rituals that are searchable via this card.

Ritual deck fans already know it– Preparation of Rites is a Normal Spell with a short and sweet effect, searching any level 7 or lower Ritual monster, then optionally adding a Ritual Spell back to your hand from the Graveyard. Pretty much any deck that runs a level 7 or lower Ritual monster that you want to see multiples of will play this. Mikanko in particular has a level 6 Ritual monster as both its boss and primary ROTA, so Prep will provide another 3 copies. Dark Magician decks can use it to fetch Illusion of Chaos, while Drytron decks can search Cyber Angel Benten and vastly improve the consistency of their combos. Simple, but Ritual decks really need support like this considering how the mechanic is inherently very bricky and resource-intensive. The bonus effect won’t come up extremely often, but it can help in longer games, especially in decks that play a single copy of their Ritual Spells (such as Drytron). Not much else to say; if your deck has a level 7 or lower Ritual monster it wants to see, no reason not to play Prep; tweak ratios as you see fit, as sometimes you might end up with too many copies of your desired Ritual monsters!

Advanced: 4/5

Art: 2/5 Easily the most boring art of the Ritual Raven saga, though at least you can see the little guy himself. It’s just the cultists standing around otherwise.
