Hello Pojo Fans,

Plunder Patrollship Jord sets sail on CoTD as our first card this week.

A Pendulum Synchro, Jord as a Pendulum has a scale of 1. While that helps with a Pendulum Summon, Jord’s ability to pop itself back to the Extra Deck to get you a Plunder Patroll Token of any Attribute you want is a pretty good effect. This would be a great effect if it only affected you, however, giving your opponent a Level 4 Token, even with 0/0 ATK/DEF is not something you want to do. You’ll have to deal with that token immediately, otherwise your opponent will be using that. Bluebeard works great alongside your token: having the ability to Special Summon himself and then getting a discard 1 to draw 1 off leaving the field for something like a Link Summon into Blackbeard.

As a Synchro, Jord is a Level 8 with a ton of DEF (3000) but only 1500ATK. Jord becomes a Plunder Patroll searcher of any variety if your opponent were to Special Summon a monster during either turn. This kind of response to your opponent is typical in Plunder Patroll, except it is usually accompanied by negation/destruction and THEN searching out a Plunder Patroll card. Yes, the searching only happens if a Plunder Patroll card is attached, but the negation/destruction ability is there. The absence of negation is a negative, however, if you have a Plunder Patroll card attached to Jord, you do get a Special Summon of a Plunder Patroll monster from the Deck. Goldenhair and Whitebeard are your Tuners that will get you another Level 8 Synchro if you use this alongside the token creation ability of Jord. All Plunder Patroll Main Deck monsters could gain their grave effects off of being used for a Link Summon as well with this card.

Jord getting you a Plunder Patroll card from your grave to move it into the Pendulum Zone can lead directly into its token creation, giving you a Level 4 token along with a Plunder Patroll card you got back from the grave. I go back to Bluebeard, Goldenhair, or Whitebeard as the best options for your token because they have the most upside as Tuners or the ability to Special Summon themselves and immediately gain advantage for you.

Plunder Patroll Jord is a Pendulum, but it will hardly be used as one. The token creation is balanced, the token cannot immediately gain you advantage, but it is how Jord becomes a Pendulum that matters. You should gain plenty of advantage with Jord before it becomes a Pendulum Spell, and be set up to use that token and deal with the one you give your opponent.

A bunch of archetypes got a few cards of support in Photon Hypernova, and this week we look at some of these archetype support cards by starting with something Plunder Patroll has been waiting on: Plunder Patrollship Jord.

Jord as a Pendulum Scale is a Scale 1, which is a good low scale, with an effect to declare an Attribute and return this card to the Extra Deck to Special Summon a Plunder Patroll Token (Fiend/Level 4/ATK 0/DEF 0) with the delcared Attribute to both player’s fields in Defense Position. It’s a good Token generating effect to help make your Plunder Patroll effects live to summon other ships while you also get a Token to summon Blackbeard for one of the archetype’s better monsters. It’s a hard once per turn, but a good Pendulum Effect.

As a monster, Jord is a Level 8 EARTH Fiend Synchro with 1500 ATK and 3000 DEF. A great DEF stat to have, EARTH is a fairly common Attribute, and Fiend is a good Type. It’s a generic Synchro that needs any Tuner and any non-Tuner(s), so thats nice. The first effect triggers when the opponent Special Summons a monster(s), letting you add a Plunder Patroll card from Deck to hand and then if it’s equipped with a Plunder Patroll card, you can Special Summon a Plunder Patroll monster from the Deck. A pretty strong effect that can generate you a ton of advantage, especially while equipped. Being able to get 2 cards from a single effect is very good, especially with one being a Plunder Patroll on field to turn into another ship. You also got a second effect to add a Plunder Patroll card from grave to hand and then this goes to the Pendulum Scale, explaining how you get it there. It’s one of the better ways to get an Extra Deck monster to the Scale considering it’s basically free recovery to do so as well. Hard once per turn on each effect, making it fair. Jord is something Pluner Patroll has waited on for a bit, and now we are just a WIND monster in the Extra Deck away from being complete.

This week covers some of the miscellaneous one-off support in Photon Hypernova, starting with the long-anticipated Plunder Patrollship Jord. It’s a level 8 EARTH Fiend Synchro Pendulum monster, making it the first EARTH Plunder Patroll ship! As some of their key plays rely on having a Plunder Patroll Extra Deck monster with the same attribute as your opponent, having another option is always welcome (where’s that WIND ship, eh?). It’ll only need one Tuner and any other non-Tuner, but summoning it is largely pointless outside of Plunder Patroll decks anyway, outside of maybe some incredibly convoluted FTK decks that abuse the tokens it makes (spoiler). Jord’s attack isn’t something to brag about, being a paltry 1500, but it makes up for it with a solid 3000 defense, so it probably isn’t battling any time soon, which is fine for a combo piece.

Jord’s Pendulum effect lets you declare an attribute to return it to the Extra Deck, then Special Summon a Plunder Patroll Token (a level 4 Fiend with 0 attack and defense) with that attribute to both sides of the field in defense position, on a hard once per turn of course. This effect is simple but strong; you not only force your opponent to field a monster to enable Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain, it also provides a body to summon even more Plunder Patroll Extra Deck monsters. As per usual with Extra Deck Pendulum monsters, Jord has an effect to easily place itself in the Pendulum Zone, which we’ll get to.

Jord has two hard once per turn effects, the first triggering if your opponent Special Summons a monster outside of the damage step; you can search any Plunder Patroll card, then if it’s equipped with a Plunder Patroll card, you can Special Summon a Plunder Patroll monster from your deck as well. While I’m usually not huge on opponent turn ROTAs, it’s great for getting follow-up if you’re ever forced to pass on Jord. Jord’s other effect recycles any Plunder Patroll card back to your hand and places Jord in the Pendulum Zone, quickly prepping its Pendulum effect. This effect is pretty huge, and I’m glad it doesn’t force you to destroy Jord somehow to put it in the Pendulum Zone. Overall, an excellent addition to Plunder Patroll that gives the deck a much-needed boost.

Art: 3.5/5 Art wise, the Patrollships are kinda just there to be honest, they are kinda cute (fitting for the archetype) but they’re a bit uninspiring.
