Pile Armed Dragon – #HAC1-EN174

You can send 1 other WIND Dragon monster or 1 other Level 7 or higher Dragon monster from your hand to the GY; Special Summon this card from your hand. You can send 1 “Armed Dragon” monster from your hand or Deck to the GY, except “Pile Armed Dragon”, then target 1 face-up monster you control; that targeted monster gains ATK equal to the Level of the monster sent to the GY x 300, until the end of this turn, also you can only attack with 1 monster this turn. You can only use each effect of “Pile Armed Dragon” once per turn.

Now we get a better card for the modern Armed Dragon strategy: Pile Armed Dragon.

Pile Armed Dragon is a Level 7 WIND Dragon with 2800 ATK and 1000 DEF. Pretty good ATK stat overall, and nothing new with WIND Dragon. You can Special Summon this from the hand by sending another WIND Dragon or any Level 7 or higher Dragon from hand to grave, giving you a free body on board and some graveyard setup. This should also at least trigger the effects of your Armed Dragon Thunder monsters for some additional advantage to make up for the discard. Second effect lets you send an Armed Dragon from hand or Deck to grave, as long as it isn’t Pile Armed Dragon, to target a face-up monster you control to have it gain 300 ATK times the Level of the monster sent to the graveyard, but you can only attack with 1 monster that turn. So you give up multiple attacks to power up one of your monsters, most likely Armed Dragon Thunder LV10 to try and get all of his effects active as soon as possible while making it a bigger body on board, which should be able to run over anything, especially sending a Level 7 or Level 10. This is also another way to trigger Armed Dragon Thunder effects, which is nice. Each effect here is a hard once per turn, so no spamming this on board and getting your monsters too big. Either way, Pile Armed Dragon is still a really good card for the Armed Dragon strategy and could even be good in a Level 7 Dragon strategy to make some bigger Extra Deck monsters.

Yesterday we saw an improvement over Armed Dragon Level 3.  Today, we see a downgrade from Armed Dragon Level 7 in Pile Armed Dragon.  Much easier to bring out via Special Summon here, though, than it’s Level 7 counterpart.  You just have to discard a Wind/Dragon or a Level 7 or higher Dragon (which totally gives this synergy in other Dragon builds) so I like that.  The Special Summon is only from the Hand.  Throwing the Graveyard with that would’ve been better.  You can dump an Armed Dragon Monster (save itself, naturally) from your Deck to your Grave to Target a Monster you control and increase its attack by 300x the Level of the Monster you dropped.  So even Level 3 is a 900 point boost (10 would be 3000).  But see, this is where Level 7 is superior.  Your discard can nuke all your opponent’s Monsters there.  Here, you just get an attack boost, sizeable as it could be.  OH, and you’re only able to attack with one of your Monsters that Turn.  So you can still use this card, and increase its attack, I mean, at 2800 to start, that could do some Damage.  It’s certainly not bad, but as said, not as good as Level 7.
