Hello Pojo Fans,

Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze is our Throwback Thursday choice, though not a far-back one (also reprinted several times now).

FIRE-based but only needing one FIRE monster allows for more decks to use her. Corner arrows as a Link 2 are good (and are needed for her effect) and the 1850ATK is par for Familiars and good for a Link 2. Treated as a Familiar-Possessed adds support cards to her. While the likelihood of your opponent having a FIRE monster for Hiita to Special Summon isn’t the most popular Attribute outside of Salamangreat, you still have a chance of stealing their Ash Blossom and then have a Link 3 opportunity or Synchro Summons using Ash. Hiita will search a FIRE 1500DEF or less monster if destroyed in your Monster Zone. The search covers several different archetypes besides Familiar-Possessed and Charmer, making Hiita a good addition to those archetypes to get another search. Hiita is more a Link 2 searcher for FIRE-based archetypes rather than being used for her first effect.

Unlike yesterday’s card only having the one Attribute for its line so far, we get to the Charmer Links with one for each of the four elements of FIRE, WIND, WATER, and EARTH and we’ll look at the oldest for Throwback Thursday since they’re basically all the same for their Attribute, so we’ll look at the FIRE Charmer Link: Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze.

Ablaze is a Link-2 FIRE Spellcaster with 1850 ATK and arrows pointing Bottom Left and Bottom Right. Good ATK for Link-2, FIRE has been doing better since Salamangreat at least, and Spellcaster is well supported, plus great Link Arrows even in Master Rule 2020 when it doesn’t matter as much. The Link Materials are any 2 Monsters, including a FIRE Monster, making it generic for any FIRE Deck as long as you have 1 Monster of the mentioned Attribute unlike 2 for something like Duelittle Chimera. It’s always treated as a Familiar-Possessed card so it can be both a Charmer and a Familiar-Possessed without having a nightmare of a name. The first effect lets you target a FIRE Monster in the opponent’s graveyard and Special Summon it. Sweet way to gain a body on board, and even better you steal it from the opponent. You can at the very least expect to see an Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring in the opponent’s graveyard, so that’s a positive. If this card was Link Summoned and destroyed by battle or an opponent’s card effect while in its owner’s Monster Zone, you can add any FIRE Monster with 1500 or less DEF from the Deck to the hand. Great floating effect to get nearly any FIRE Monster in the game, but it likely makes the opponent try to make sure they get rid of it without destroying it, so it could be safe long enough for you to use this as Link Fodder for a Link-3 or beyond. If the opponent does destroy it, 1850 is easy to run over so they likely won’t need an effect, or you decide to ram it into something, you can likely get a powerful combo going with the right FIRE Monster. Each effect is a hard once per turn, which I guess is fair since both are pretty good. I like the idea of these Charmer Links and they’ve seen some nice success over the last year or so. They aren’t broken, but they’re cool Links to make use of with the right Attribute Deck, now we just need the LIGHT and DARK ones for completion sake, though those would likely be the strongest ones.

Advanced Rating: 4/5

Art: 5/5 Hiita might be my favorite of the Charmer/Familiar-Possessed series, but it’s hard to choose. Either way, great artwork. Also want to see what the new Familiar is on her shoulder.

We haven’t looked at a Link Monster in a minute here, and Throwback Thursday gives us an unreviewed card, in Hiita the Fire Charmer, Ablaze.  Link 2, Fire/Spellcaster, 1850 attack (very nice for Link 2) and arrows pointing to the respective bottom diagonals.  Link Summon requirements are 2 Monsters, 1 of which must be Fire.  We see first this card is always treated as a Familiar Possessed card.  Synergy is good, and types and Decks that can work together are too.  You can Special Summon an opponent’s Fire Monster from their Grave and put it in a Zone linked to this card.  Stealing opponent’s Monsters is always fun, even if it’s dependent on them having Fire types.  If Link Summoned and destroyed by Battle or opponent’s card effect (while in the owner’s Zone) you can add a Fire Monster with 1500 or less defense from your Deck to your Hand.  I’d like better if it came to the Field, but you’re all but guaranteed to get this latter effect.  The Monster doesn’t even have to hit your Grave, simply be destroyed, so you’re getting something for that.  Strong enough attack for a Link 2, free resource on destruction, and can easily Link into other things, not to mention Theme and Fire support

Art:  5/5  Every bit as pretty as yesterday
