Hello Pojo Fans,

Fishborg Blaster has been banned for some time, and I’m not thinking it’s going to be off the list anytime soon.

Level 1 Tuner WATER has great synergy with many different cards, including One For One. The ability to discard to Special Summon itself from the grave as long as you have a Level 3 or lower WATER monster on the field is broken solely because it isn’t a “once per turn”. As long as you have fodder to discard and that Level 3 or lower WATER you have a Fishborg Blaster available to you. Locking you into WATER materials for a Synchro isn’t very hard when you consider all the monsters this card gels with: Treeborn Frog, Swap Frog, Ronintoadin, and many more. This card was part of the dreaded Fish OTK long long ago and could help create huge boards involving Quasar, Hyper Librarian and Formula Synchron, netting you massive pluses and all-but stopping your opponent before they had a chance. In this days format Fishborg would be just as broken with Link monsters not being locked into all WATER material monsters like with Synchros. You could keep climbing the ladder over and over again with your links as long as you could keep getting cards.

There’s a reason why the card got banned, and unless they change it to “once per turn” for the Special Summon, it won’t be off the list.

Here’s a card I can sort of understand why we never looked at it since it wasn’t truly broken when it came out in Ancient Prophecy, but it later found its uses, Fishborg Blaster.

Fishborg Blaster is a Level 1 WATER Fish Tuner with 100 ATK and 200 DEF. Level 1 equals One for One which I’m sure was sent to one shortly before this was banned, plus the Tuner aspect is great on a low level, WATER is a nice attribute and Fish typically works well with Aqua and Sea Serpent as well though Fish might be the worst of the trio, and the stats are poor but I expect that on Level 1s. If you control a face-up Level 3 or lower WATER monster, you can discard 1 card to Special Summon this card from your graveyard and if this card is used as Synchro Material, all other materials must be WATER. I remember Superancient Deepsea King  Coelacanth being used to make massive Synchro plays with other Fishes back in the day and I’m sure this was a card you always summoned off it for more Synchro Material since it could revive itself. I also remember a Fishborg Monarch deck existing I believe since this could work with Treeborn Frog to go into Formula Synchron to draw a card and have a Level 2 Tuner with the Level 6 Monarchs for Level 8 Synchros. Fishborg has some interesting uses, but it not being a hard once per turn is likely why it got banned. Now with Links, you got more to use this for, especially if we ever get Cyrstron Needlefiber, which sounds scary to see that and this in the same format.

Art: 4.25/5 I like the fish controlling this robot armor.

Fishborg Blaster is a card I knew Austin would choose, when we talked about this week, he seemed really interested and surprised particularly that we hadn’t gotten to this one before.  Fishborg Blaster (also Banned in the OCG this time) is a simple enough Monster at a glance, being a Level 1, Water/Fish Monster, with a mere 100 attack and 200 defense.

As should be obvious and well known by given how long this card has been Banned, as well as how rampant its abuse was, this card makes Synchro Summoning very easy.  And to drop a Monster like say…Trishula, without any real effort, should be criminal.  Perhaps it is, hence the Ban of this card.  All you need is a Level 3 Water Monster or lower, discard 1 card, and Special Summon this from the Graveyard.

The discard is supposed to help balance the power of Fishborg Blaster, but honestly, if you threw an errata on here that made it maybe once per turn, or even extremely hard as once per Duel to use the effect to revive this little Tuner, it might be a card we could see come off the Ban List, but until then, I just don’t see it happening unfortunately.  Too much power built in this one little card.

Rating:  Banned/5 but 4.5/5 if not

Art:  4/5  Simple, but I like this picture.  The flashing from the eyes, the little pistol he has, and the cool blues in the water background and bubbles.  It’s fun.
