Dark World Archives – #SR13-EN026

During your Main Phase: You can discard 1 “Dark World” monster, and if you do, “Dark World” monsters you currently control gain ATK equal to the Level the discarded monster had in the hand x 100, until the end of this turn. If a monster whose original Type is Fiend is discarded from your hand by the effect of a “Dark World” card or an opponent’s card effect, even during the Damage Step: You can discard 1 card, then draw 2 cards. You can only use each effect of “Dark World Archives” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Dark World Archives is the second Continuous “Dark World” Spell and one that is actually usable.

Small ATK boost for all Dark World monsters if you discard a Dark World monster during your Main Phase. With a Grapha discard you’ll pump all Dark World monsters up 800ATK, which is about as high as you’ll go. It isn’t about the ATK gain though, it is about the Dark World monster discard to activate their effect(s) as well as triggering the archives second effect: Discard 1 card, then draw 2 cards.

Discarding through effect is what fuels Dark World monster effects, and getting a draw two is something the Dark World archetype was lacking: good dedicated draw power. They had Dark World Dealings, but with more grave use happening, Dark World Dealings helps your opponent more now than ever. Each turn you are able to get a slight ATK boost with your first discard through this card, then it will trigger the second effect, giving you another discard to get two draws. If you always discard Dark World monsters for these effects (you have to for at leas the first effect) you will get their effects as well, netting you solid advantage in the hand/on the field.

Solid draw power and effect activation for Dark World monsters, the only downside is that it has to be in the form of a Continuous Spell rather than a Normal Spell. Opening turn though this card is fantastic, this card doesn’t need your opponent to have anything on the field, and the less chances they have at stopping the card, the more advantage you gain.

Next up we get more ways for Dark Worlds to be able to discard their own cards, something the Deck needed, in Dark World Archives.

Dark World Archives is a Continuous Spell with a few effects. The first lets you discard a Dark World during your Main Phase to boost the ATK of all the Dark Worlds you control by 100 times the Level of the discarded monster. The ATK boost isn’t as important as the discard, but it’s nice to have, but an instant way to trigger whatever Dark World you might have in your hand is helpful if you got no other discard outlets. The second effect triggers if a monster whose original Type is Fiend is discarded from your hand by a Dark World effect, letting you discard a card to draw 2. Kinda wish the draw was first if you wanted to discard whatever you drew, but it’s another way to discard while getting draw power for more monsters and discard outlets, which is great especially considering this card can trigger its own second effect with the first. Hard once per turn on both effects, cause things might get out of hand if this didn’t have that clause, but it’s still good discarding for the Deck that’s searchable. Most likely going to be a modern Dark World staple.

Next up in the new wave of Dark World cards is the Continuous Magic Dark World Archives.  The first Effect is almost laughable, despite actually being helpful, where you can discard a Dark World Monster to increase the attack of all your Dark World Monster by the Level of what you discarded x100.  The attack increase is nothing, might occasionally help, but the true power there is in the free discard to get your plays moving.  (Said attack boost, such as it is, lasts until the end of the Turn).  Next, if a Monster originally Fiend type is discarded from your Hand via a Dark World Effect or by an opponent’s Effect, EVEN DURING THE DAMAGE STEP (for once), you can discard a card to Draw two cards.  This thing is ridiculous.  You have the potential to discard twice here in the same Turn, as well as potentially Drawing two each Turn as well.  Not limited to opponent’s actions, and you can play into it too.  The potential for sick destruction, Field swarming, and destruction all off this card is crazy.  You can easily plus off this card in one Turn alone (and the more Turns you get off it, the more you should plus, until you win).  Each Effect here is Once per Turn and can only be used Once per Turn, which is absolutely appropriate in this instance.  This thing is only bigger trouble for your opponent each Turn it stays on the Field.

Rating:  4/5

Art:  4/5  Still creepy, appropriate enough given the name, and I do like the kinda faded color usage here.  Sorta gives a ghost feel to the picture, and an ominous feel.  Certainly fits Dark World.

Struggling to trigger Dark World monsters? Dark World Archives is a Continuous Spell, so you can search it with Snoww, Unlight of Dark World (or simply hard draw it through sheer force). Archives has two hard once per turn effects, so playing multiple at once is generally pointless. Its first effect allows you to discard a Dark World monster, increasing the attack of all Dark World monsters you control by 100 times that monster’s level until the End Phase. The attack boost is largely meaningless, but since it discards for effect, it’ll trigger Dark World effects; unfortunately, you’ll need a Dark World monster on the field in the first place to activate it, but that’s why we have backup plans like The Gates of Dark World. Archives’ second effect triggers if you discard a Fiend monster with a Dark World effect or if your opponent makes you discard one by card effect, letting you discard a card and draw two cards. Getting more free discards and draws is always nice in Dark World. Personally, because it can be a little bricky and Snoww searches it anyway, I would run just one copy, though if you prefer more conservative plays, you could get away with running more copies.
