Cornfield Coatl

Cornfield Coatl – #DUNE-EN005

If this card battles a monster, neither can be destroyed by that battle. You can only use each of the following effects of “Cornfield Coatl” once per turn. You can discard this card; add 1 monster that mentions “Chimera Fusion” from your Deck to your hand, except “Cornfield Coatl”. When your opponent activates a card or effect that targets a card(s) you control, while you control “Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast” (Quick Effect): You can banish this card from your field or GY; negate that effect, and if you do, destroy that card.

The Chimera Week will begin in a few days and it’s hard to fit it all into 5 days, so we’ll look at the related Illusion monsters this weekend starting with Cornfield Coatl.

Coatl is a Level 4 WIND Illusion with 500 ATK and 1700 DEF. A good DEF stat at least, Illusion is still short on cards since it’s new, and WIND isn’t great. We got the Illusion effect where monster’s can’t destroyed in battle in battles involving this card, which whatever. The remaining effects are hard once per turn effects, the first letting you discard this card from the hand to add any monster that mentions Chimera Fusion in its text from Deck to hand, besides another copy of this. Basically gets to your main monsters like Mirror Swordknight to summon your Gazelle/Berfomet from Deck, or outright search the Gazelle to search Chimera Fusion or a Level 5 Fiend, but you’d probably prefer Mirror Swordsknighth to summon Berfomet from Deck to get Chimera Fusion and a Level 4 Beast. The second effect is a graveyard effect when the opponent targets a card(s) you control while Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast is on the field, letting you banish this card from the field or graveyard to negate the effect and destroy that card. Nice targeting protection for your searcher being in the graveyard after you search with it. Thankfully all the new Fusions are treated as Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast while on the field, cause you rather not run the original unless you do Fusion Armament plays. It’s a good card to serve as the searcher for whatever monster you might need while also being targeting protection while you main Fusions are on the field. It’s a good 3-of for consistency with the search alone and being an Illusion you can use for the big boss, the targeting protection is just a nice extra bonus that’s really good.
