Don’t fall directly into the trap. Hello Pojo Readers, Crunch$G here to tell you everything you should know about the latest Structure Deck to release for the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG, Beware of Traptrix. As the same suggests, we get a bunch of brand new Traptrix support with of course some new Hole Normal Traps to go with said Traptrix cards. There’s also a bunch of reprints to go with the Insect/Plant nature of the Traptrix monsters, and Trap Cards since those synergize with the Traptrix archetype the most, especially the classic Trap Hole cards. There’s 8 new cards in total and a bunch of reprints to mention, so let’s get into things and see what we got in this Deck.

Alluring Traptrix

We start of course with the 8 brand new cards for the Traptrix and Hole Normal Trap archetypes, as we got 2 new Main Deck Monsters, 2 Spells, 2 Traps, a Link, and an Xyz to round out the new support. Traptrix Pudica is a Level 4 EARTH Plant who is unaffected by the effects of Hole Normal Traps, upon Normal Summon can let you add a Traptrip Garden from your Deck to your hand, and upon being Special Summoned can let you target and banish a Special Summoned monster the opponent controls, then during the next Standby Phase they can Special Summon a banished monster. Traptrix Arachnocampa is a Level 4 EARTH Insect who is unaffected by the effects of Hole Normal Traps, prevents the destruction of your Set Spells and Traps the first time they would be destroyed each turn, and it has a Quick Effect during the Main Phase to be Special Summoned from your hand if you control a Traptrix monster, but you can only summon Insect or Plant monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn. Traptrip Garden is a Field Spell that during your Main Phase can let you Normal Summon a Traptrix monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set that turn, prevents the destruction of your Insect and Plant monsters the first time they would be destroyed each turn, and it can let you banish a monster you control to Special Summon a Traptrix monster from your hand or graveyard. Traptantalizing Tune is a Normal Spell that lets you discard a Level 4 Insect or Plant monster, or a Normal Trap, to draw 2 cards, also you can banish this card from the graveyard to target and retutrn a banished Level 4 Plant or Insect monster, or a Normal Trap, to the bottom of the Deck. Terrifying Trap Hole Nightmare is a Normal Trap where if your opponent has Special Summoned a monster(s) this turn, you can target and destroy a monster the opponent controls with 2000 or more ATK, then if you have a Hole Normal Trap in your graveyard, you can banish any monster from their graveyard. Traptrix Pinguicula is a Rank 4 EARTH Plant Xyz that needs 2 Level 4 monsters to summon, is unaffected by Trap Cards while it has Xyz Material and monsters with the same Type as Xyz Materials it has attached, can detach a material from itself to add a Traptrix monster from your Deck to your hand, and if a monster(s) owned by the opponent is sent to the graveyard or banished by a card effect, you can attach one of those monsters as material to this card. Traptrix Atypus is a Link-3 EARTH Insect that needs 2+ monsters, including an Insect or Plant, to summon, has arrows pointing Left, Right, and Down, is unaffected by all Trap effects if it was Link Summoned, gives all your Traptrix monsters 1000 ATK if there’s a Normal Trap in your graveyard, and once per turn can target face-up cards the opponent controls up to the number of Insect and Plant monsters you control to negate their effects, then you can banish a Normal Trap from your graveyard to destroy one of the targeted cards. Finally, Traptrix Holeutea is a Normal Trap that can be activated the turn it was set by discarding a Normal Trap, on activation is Special Summoned in Defense Position as a Normal Monster (Plant/EARTH/Level 4/ATK 400/DEF 2400) with it not being treated as a Trap Card, and you can banish this card from the graveyard to target and Special Summon any Traptrix monster from your graveyard.

Noteworthy Reprints

Now we take a look at all of the reprints included in this Structure Deck. Of course, you can’t have a Traptrix Structure Deck without other Traptrix monsters, so we get reprints for Atrax, Myrmeleo, Nepenthes, Dionaea, Genlisea, Vesiculo, Rafflesia, Allomerus, Cularia, Sera, and Mantis to basically give you the whole lineup of Traptrix monsters. You also get a ton of Hole Normal Traps in this Deck with 2 copies each of Bottomless Trap Hole and Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare alongside singular copies of Trap Hole, Void Trap Hole, Floodgate Trap Hole, and Gravedigger’s Trap Hole. For the monster lineup outside all the Traptrix monsters, you get a bunch of Insect and Plant monsters as well as other monsters that went well with Traptrix in the past and present, plus generic cards. The aforementioned monster lineup includes Gadarla, the Mystery Dust Kaiju, Kumongous, the Sticky String Kaiju, Retaliating “C”, Resonance Insect, Lonefire Blossom, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Rose Lover, Sauge de Fleur, Mekk-Knight Purple Nightfall, Mekk-Knight Blue Sky, Artifact Moralltach, Fire Hand, Ice Hand, and Thunder Hand. This isn’t a Spell-heavy strategy, so the only Spell reprints are for Raigeki and Harpie’s Feather Duster. Finally, we get the Trap line-up that isn’t the Hole cards, as we see reprints for Trap Trick, The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine, Artifact Scantum, Naturia Sacred Tree, and Evenly Matched.

In Conclusion

Overall an outstanding Structure Deck. The Traptrix support overall is very good and could likely give the archetype a competitive boost. The new Level 4s, Trap Monster, Field Spell, and Rank 4 are especially very good, but the other 3 can 100% find a place in the Deck. The reprints overall are outstanding, as we finally get the Structure Deck reprint of Evenly Matched we were previously missing out on, alongside another Structure Deck print for Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. A bunch of good cards to go with Traptrix as well like Shade Brigandine. The Mekk-Knights 100% needed a reprint. Seeing the Artifact and Hands in here is a cool throwback to HAT format. Also having a bunch of Traptrix monsters and a good array of Hole Normal Traps makes this Deck extremely playable out of the box with just 3 of them, but of course you’ll get a good boost with outside cards. Another excellent Structure Deck release all around.
