Weftwalking is one of those cards that seems to have two “halves” to its rules text, and some of those cards make you wonder why and how they put them together. In this case, at least, there’s a degree of perceived connection between them. The main thing you need with an Omniscience variant is lots of things to play for free, and the pseudo-Timetwister effect will potentially give you more things (presumably ones you used to good effect before). It’s a little awkward for it to be entering Standard at the same time as Omniscience is still around, since it’s more restrictive than to the original – not to mention that it’s symmetrical. You’ll have to build carefully to try and break the symmetry in particular, but I suspect it can be done, and its worst case is causing chaos in Commander games. In other words, not a terrible place to be.

Weftwalking is a card that strikes me as looking better than it actually is. A Timetwister effect on you can be an excellent way to restock on gas, and free spells are always a fun time…until you realize that you are probably going to have to wait a full turn cycle to get a free spell off of this, and your opponents will have the chance to capitalize on it. While there are always ways to break the symmetry in your favor (think Lavinia, Azorius Renegade), the dual issues of this card are that it’s an expensive refill and refresh and that you need to protect this in the face of opponents eking out advantage first. While there are definitely ways to make this work, you have to work really  hard to make this worth your investment.

Weftwalking starts out as a Day’s Undoing for your own deck and then turns into a group hug. An odd combination, but not unplayable. Omniscience immediately comes to mind when looking at the second ability, apart from this card being a little opponent-friendly.

I would personally try to look for a card like Temporal Trespass and use this card as a finisher. Maybe it would even work in self-mill decks.

The art reminds me of a Cthulhu-like story, it’s very ominous and beautiful.

Constructed: 3 (I don’t think it will replace Omniscience in standard)

Limited: 2
Multiplayer: 3,5
Commander [EDH]: 3,6
