Reviews Below:
Speaking of the subtleties of spacecraft and the station ability, Uthros Research Craft has plenty of those. At three charge counters it has a positively explosive ability, but you have to charge it up first. And you might be using artifact creatures to do that in case you draw things out of order and want to draw cards, so will you be able to guarantee that you have some left to get the draw chain going? In a way, the 12-counter ability is clearer, as it counts any artifact including mana rocks and tokens like Treasure. These help you not only power it out, but get things to charge it up in the late game and immediately go to town. Like some other spacecraft we’ve seen, that does seem to suggest a longer game than is common in tournaments . . . and yet, I can’t entirely dismiss the card’s potential, as each part of its game text has a history that often ends in aggressive combo or synergy decks.

space: the re-spacening
Uthros Research Craft leans hard into more artifact support, coming online to make artifacts even more explosive than before. Of course, you have to get there first, so let’s talk about it.
Stationing at 3+ means that this could get crewed up immediately on resolution, if you so desire, and once this is on with three counters, you don’t really need to worry about it further, as it’ll just accrue advantage by sitting there. It even builds up to being a threatening weapon…while there is downside in making this a creature, if you’re in an artifact or artifact token deck, this might be colossal, and it’s also evasive. This is both engine and finisher, and that’s pretty scary.
The only real issue is that you need to bring this online, and three power isn’t trivial in blue, the color with the weakest creatures. Still, there’s a lot of threat to be had, and I’d try to blow this up immediately if I saw one on the table, because you might be able to bring it online in the blink of an eye.
Constructed: 2.5 (strikes me as too slow for Legacy/Vintage)
Casual: 4.5
Limited: 3 (likely only going to be a big body…if you see it at all in Limited)
Multiplayer: 3.5
Commander [EDH]: 4.25

Thijs
Yesterday we talked about the new ‘Station’ mechanic and today we have another spacecraft.
When talking about these vessels, we immediately think of the ‘Crew’ ability. Since aggro players only like to tap creatures after saying ‘i would like to go to combat’, they will most likely not be impressed by this new gimmick.
The Uthros Research Craft however has synergy with itself. From 3+ charge counters, every time you cast an artifact, you not only get to draw a card, but you also get to add a charge counter. After 12 charge counters it gets flying and +1/+0 for each artifact you control, namely all those artifacts you cast while giving this card charge counters. Now that’s interesting.
It’s from the Commander subset again, so not legal in all formats, but this card – give it a few turns – might turn out to be a big bad baddie.
