2 Level 8 monsters

When another monster’s effect is activated and you have a Level 3 Psychic monster in your GY (Quick Effect): You can detach 1 material from this card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that monster. Hello Pojo Fans,

P.U.N.K. JAM FEVER! or PJF is the last card we’re reviewing this week and is, despite being for the PUNK archetype, can be a generic Xyz Monster.

Needing just two Level 8 monsters, PJF can also be Xyz Summoned using a PUNK Fusion or Synchro Monster, expanding the options for the archetype and allowing you to continue to progress your turn after using the effect(s) of the Fusion or Synchro Monster. You will only have one detach potential, and JAM FEVER! has two effects, but both are good.

600LP payment was obviously going to be a thing, and when it comes to PJF, you can pay 600LP then detach a material to draw a card. With the generic materials and only paying 600LP to draw a card off detaching a material, I think that would be generic enough for other decks to consider potentially using PJF. 2800ATK is pretty strong, and while the DEF is 600, you won’t be spinning it into defense anyways.

P.U.N.K. JAM FEVER! works best though in its own archetype, as well as Virtual World because they both specialize in Level 3 and 8 Psychic Monsters, and that ties into this Rank 8’s second effect. Detaching a material to negate and destroy a monster effect as long as you’ve got a Level 3 Psychic monster in your grave is easy to do and while you may only have one negation because you used one to get a draw, a negation is still a negation. After spending the two materials you can use this as fodder for Ukiyoe-P.U.N.K. Rising Carp which you can either tribute for two Special Summons, or re-summon another P.U.N.K JAM FEVER!.

Easily made Rank 8 with an easy draw ability and negation, as well as an alternate Xyz Summon ability that ties into the other Extra Deck PUNK monsters makes this monster a boss monster that the archetype needed. You will be running three copies because you can cycle through this Xyz and your Fusion within archetype, and go back into this. All they need is an in-archetype way to attach a Psychic from the hand or grave and maybe an omni-negation.

We end the week with P.U.N.K. adding to their Extra Deck lineup with an Xyz to go with their Fusion and Synchros: P.U.N.K. JAM FEVER!

JAM FEVER is a Rank 8 LIGHT Psychic Xyz with 2800 ATK and 600 DEF. Fair ATK on a Rank 8, LIGHT is still good, and Psychic is the most common Type for P.U.N.K. and is pretty solid. Materials are any 2 Level 8 monsters, which is generic and something P.U.N.K. can do, but once per turn you can also slap this on top of a P.U.N.K. Fusion or Synchro you control, letting you make use of a Carp Rising you might revive, or a copy of either Dragon Drive or Amazing Dragon you got your value from. You can pay 600 LP and detach a material from this to draw a card, which is fine for P.U.N.K. to draw hand traps. Finally, when another monster effect is activated and you have a Level 3 Psychic monster in your graveyard, you can detach a material from this as a Quick Effect to negate the activation and destroy that monster. So it’s a Rank 8 monster negate that’s not completely generic due to needing a Level 3 Psychic in the grave, which is good to keep this exclusive to P.U.N.K. and some Psychic piles you might run this in, also giving P.U.N.K. a monster effect negate that also destroys to go along with Number 90 negating monster effects, but not destroying them (unless you play it in archetype of course). HOPT on both effects is fine. Generic Rank 8 that has an alternate summoning condition is solid since it can let you draw cards and negate monster effects. If you are only summoning this with a single material, you’ll likely save it for the negate over the draw, otherwise summoning it properly you might use both. It’s good for the P.U.N.K. Extra Deck to play a copy or two.

Art: 4/5 P.U.N.K. artwork is certainly unique.

Closing out the week is the new sub-boss for the P.U.N.K. archetype, P.U.N.K. JAM FEVER!; I will spare your eyes by referring to it as just “Jam Fever”. Jam Fever is a Rank 8 LIGHT Psychic Xyz monster, taking any 2 level 8 monsters. This is pretty easy to make in P.U.N.K. proper thanks to P.U.N.K. JAM Dragon Drive and your various level 8 bodies, though there’s a much easier way to summon it that we’ll get to. Jam Fever packs a solid 2800 attack but a miserable 600 defense, which is a shout out to Noh-P.U.N.K. Ze Amin’s stats…not that it makes it any better!

In addition to being summoned manually, Jam Fever can also be summoned once per turn by using a single P.U.N.K. Fusion or Synchro monster. A very common play for P.U.N.K. Endboards is to summon Ukiyoe-P.U.N.K. Amazing Dragon for its revival effect, then use it for Jam Fever to get some disruption out of it, though you’ll unfortunately be stuck with 1 material. That’s a shame, because Jam Fever’s other 2 effects both appreciate the materials! The first hard once per turn effect will let you detach a material and pay 600 LP to simply draw a card. This is usually paired with P.U.N.K. JAM Extreme Session in some combo lines to draw 2 cards in total, fishing for silver bullet techs that you know will shut down your opponent. It’s less pronounced in the current format, but if you have the materials to spare, why not? The reason why is, of course, the other hard once per turn effect, a Quick Effect that can be used when another monster activates an effect while you have a level 3 Psychic monster in your Graveyard, letting you negate the activation and destroy the monster. It’s basically a better Number 90: Galaxy-Eyes Photon Lord for P.U.N.K., and naturally if you make it early it’s great Nibiru insurance! One in a blue moon you might face a deck that can somehow remove all of your level 3 Psychics from the Graveyard, but without the Ishizu monsters, this is too slim to worry about. Like I said, this can make it agonizing to use a single material for Jam Fever, because the draw is also really good; some combo lines can make Jam Fever with 2 materials and still have plenty of fodder for your other plays, though they often require 2 or more cards. Jam Fever might cause a bit of decision paralysis, but it’s still a great new sub-boss with a surprising amount of combo potential.

+Provides solid disruption and a draw in some combo lines
+Very easy to make
-Ideally you want to make it with 2 materials
-Negate can be turned off by aggressive Graveyard hate
