Maliss P March Hare
Maliss P March Hare

Maliss P March Hare – #ALIN-EN023

Your opponent cannot target “Maliss” Link Monsters that point to this card with card effects. You can only use each of the following effects of “Maliss <P> March Hare” once per turn. During the Main Phase, if this card is in your hand (Quick Effect): You can banish 1 other “Maliss” card from your hand or GY, and if you do, Special Summon this card. If this card is banished: You can pay 300 LP, then target 1 of your banished “Maliss” monsters; add it to your hand.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Maliss get even more support in the newest set with an extender: Maliss P March Hare.

Like all Maliss monsters, she’s got a low stat line for a reason, and the 600/300 stat line makes certain your opponent is going to need a few turns with other Main Deck Maliss monsters to weenie-rush you to death. Like all Maliss monsters though, you are not meant to attack with them, but merely set up your big Link Monsters. March Hare’s Quick Effect to banish a Maliss in hand or grave to Special Summon makes herself makes her a hand trap Maliss and extender in one. Protection on your opponent’s turn as well as triggering any of the Maliss monsters ability to Special Summon from the banished area for a small LP cost, then plus off any effect(s) upon summon (White Rabbit). In terms of extending, March Hare can instantly Special Summon another Maliss with her and not use your Normal Summon, getting you to that Link-2 you want to summon. Dormouse could banish a Maliss from the Deck, but had to be on field to activate the effect, it isnt’ a Quick Effect, and not trigger on summon, so it is very easily countered. The same goes for Chessy Cat, except her effect to banish is from the hand as well, but the same conditions apply to her as Dormouse.

Unlike other Maliss monsters though, March Hare cannot Special Summon herself when banished. Instead, she is a Warrior Returning Alive from the banished area for Maliss. 300LP to add back a Maliss monster may not Special Summon them to the field, but that could be just as good. Suppose you use both effects of White Rabbit and banish her in the same turn for Chessy Cat or Dormouse, March Hare can add her back to the hand for next turn to do the shenanigans all over. Beside, GWC-06 is meant to Special Summon a banished Maliss if they can’t be Special Summoned through their effect again.

The archetype is dominant despite the hits it took on the ban list. There’s likely more to come for them and Ryzeal, but this card adds back power that they lost. She can’t Special Summon from the banished area, but retrieving a Maliss monster is just as good and her ability to banish from the hand and leap to the board in any Main Phase makes her a huge threat.

More Alliance Insight cards this week with us finally getting to the archetype stuff and a new Maliss name you can play at 3 after the 2 best names were semi-limited: Maliss P March Hare.

March Hare is a Level 3 DARK Cyberse with 600 ATK and 300 DEF. Stats are bad, but a DARK Cyberse is great. Your opponent cannot target Maliss Links that point to this card with card effects, giving you some decent protection on your Hearts Crypter potentially, or to help Red Ransom or White Binder not get hit with an Imperm, though with these stats, I don’t know how long that targeting protection will last. Remaining effects are each a HOPT, first being a Quick Effect in the Main Phase to Special Summon this card from the hand by banishing a Maliss card from your hand or graveyard, giving Maliss another extender for the Deck while also offering a way to trigger the banish effects of your monsters to come back to the field for more Link Summons, especially to banish the Link-3s in the graveyard and get their powerful effects. At worst, you can banish your Maliss Traps to get the boost from Underground. Other effect triggers if this card is banished, letting you pay 300 LP to target and add a banished Maliss monster to your hand. With all the Link Summoning this archetype can do already with the other monsters summoning themselves after being banished, this didn’t need to immediately summon itself if banished herself, which is fine since she does come with her own Special Summon effect if you choose to add herself back to your hand. March Hare is just more of the same for Maliss, getting bodies on the board for Link Spam and generating advantage by banishing your Maliss cards. With White Rabbit and Dormouse both at 2 along with Underground, this is really the only Maliss card left you can say is a 3-of guaranteed with Chessy Cat ratios going back and forth. A staple for Maliss currently.

This week is yet another round of one-off cards, this time focusing on more recent archetypes– what else to start with than Maliss P March Hare? Like the other Maliss Main Deck monsters, March Hare is a level 3 DARK Cyberse monster, so you can search it with Cynet Mining and access it with your standard Maliss cards and, more importantly, it along with the other Maliss monsters have synergy with the new @Ignister support as it’s searchable with Backup @Ignister. As far as stats go, it’s somehow even worse than the other Maliss monsters, with only 600 attack and 300 defense, not that any of them had great stats in the first place. Say, does this mean the next Maliss monster will have 300 attack?

This time around, March Hare will protect your Maliss Link monsters from targeting protection while they point to it. Alongside Maliss P Dormouse, this can give Maliss Q Hearts Crypter very solid protection, though again it’s not super relevant given how easy it is to revive your Maliss Link monsters. Speaking of which, March Hare itself is quite adept at doing that thanks to the first of its 2 hard once per turn effects, a Quick Effect that can only be used during the Main Phase while it’s in your hand to banish a Maliss monster from your hand or Graveyard to Special Summon itself. While not the 1 card combo starter people were hoping for, it’s still a bombshell card for a variety of reasons– being a Quick Effect can help dodge some interactions, like chaining to an enemy Bystial to banish your own Maliss monster before they can or chain block reactive cards like Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring in some scenarios. On top of that, it’s still an excellent 2 card combo starter, which is totally fine considering Maliss’s strongest combos are primarily 2 card combos anyway. Not only will it summon itself, it will likely summon the Maliss monster you banish for its condition, whether it be from the hand or the Graveyard. March Hare’s other effect triggers if it’s banished, breaking form with the other Maliss Main Deck monsters to do something a little different. Rather than Special Summon itself, it’ll instead let you add a banished Maliss monster back to your hand by paying 300 Life Points. On one hand, it’s understandable since it’d be a little weird for a monster to have 2 ways to Special Summon itself, though it goes without saying that it’s not a particularly fantastic effect for Maliss; they’re already great at recycling their own banished cards with Hearts Crypter, and you can’t even get your Traps back. However, since it can thankfully recycle itself, it’ll almost always be ready for the next turn if you don’t have anything else you need to recycle. Much like the March Hare in the book, it’s a quirky card, but a very strong one that’s a welcome addition to Maliss. I’d run 2 copies just to get the mini-loop live alone, though some people might be comfortable with 3 given the rather harsh Main Deck hits in the TCG.

+Excellent extender and 2 card combo starter that can dodge some interaction
+Can effectively recycle itself to maintain advantage
-Can’t recycle Maliss Traps
-Very poor combo ability on its own
