As a warning for when we get into Spider-Man, I am not terribly well-versed in the lore beyond the general vagaries of the Marvel mythos, and so the most i know about Kraven is that he’s a hunter and starred in a terrible movie that came out in 2024. He’s arguably better at hunting than starring in movies, though, so things look better (maybe).
Kraven’s Last Hunt is, on the surface, a four-mana removal spell in green. As long as you can set it up, either with itself or in advance, this will kill most things that you might want to be killed. The main attraction is definitely the first chapter, but the other two aren’t bad; a free buff to a creature can come in handy in a pinch, as can the recursion. Alone, those effects wouldn’t be worth it, but stapled to a pretty good removal spell makes them really nice bonuses. Kraven’s Last Hunt is a pretty solid card in all, I’d say, a removal spell in green that helps green keep pushing its tempo.
Constructed: 3.75 (does require a bit of set-up to really shine)

Commander [EDH]: 3.5 (might be a fun toy for all sorts of decks, since direct removal is somewhat scarce in green without on-board creatures)

Comic book lovers will look at this card with fond memories of the eponymous storyline from the 1980’s, published in The Amazing Spider-Man and two other publications. Kraven is the man who ‘kills’ Spider-Man and then goes on a rampage against all types of villains, after which he resurrects his foe and commits suicide.
The card does honor the story somewhat, but really only in its first ability. A good removal spell, after which this saga kind of fizzles a bit.
It could be good in Commander decks with big beasts, giving you a little extra edge over the opponents, and the addition of trample would of course be nice.

If you’ve been to my Instagram page, you’ll know I’m more of a Batman guy than Spider-Man. But there have been some truly compelling stories and characters in Spider-Man as well, and Kraven is a villain who makes a big impression on a lot of people despite not having the street-level recognition of a Green Goblin or Doctor Octopus. As Thijs alluded to on this page, this card is based on a storyline that was a massive rollercoaster and upended Spider-Man’s whole world for a while. It was even part of the inspiration for the recent PS5 game, which tells you something about where it stands in spider-lore.
As far as gameplay goes, though, Kraven’s Last Hunt is most notable for doing something that no green card has ever done as far as I’m aware. If you thought Monstrous Emergence was pushing boundaries for green, the first ability on this saga shoots right past them. It feels more like something a black card might do. The rest of it is fairly standard for green, and it is in fact probably a pretty good deal, considering that when it comes into play it will often straight up kill something, which you might expect to pay four mana for in green. The rest is basically a free bonus – think of Bloodbraid Elf and its massively discounted spell plus an effective attacker.
