Hello Pojo Fans,

Jurrac Astero is the newest Synchro for Jurrac and ends our week looking at their new support which hasn’t disappointed in giving the archetype a boost in efficiency.

Astero is pretty generic in terms of materials, though centric to Dinosaurs, needing a Dino or more after the generic Tuner is supplied. Stego earlier in this week can supply itself as a one-card Synchro of this, if you of course can send a Level 10 or higher Dinosaur from your Deck to supply the needed Jurrac monsters to make the Synchro Summon. The first effect is specific to Jurrac, netting you a Spell/Trap within the archetype from the Deck directly set to the field. If you could activate the set Spell/Trap this turn it would be better, but I guess that’s the balance to the search, we’ve seen that before. While the opponent will know what trap you set, you can activate the Spell immediately. Jurrac Volcano is impactful and could immediately pay off if you send a Level 12 Dino with Stego to set up this card’s Synchro Summon. Jurrac Impact is a board-wipe trap that will be live during the opponent’s turn and, if you keep Astero on the field you will have its requirement ready.

The second effect is more universal and can be used among all Dino players. Your opponent is going to Special Summon a monster(s) at some point unless they are playing a strict anti-meta strategy, and when they do Special Summon, Astero can banish two Dinosaur monsters in the grave to destroy the monster(s). You are already running Ultimate Conductor, so you are ready to banish Dinosaur monsters from your grave. This is direct interaction against your opponent on either turn and you should be able to supply the cost without issue, especially if you were to be running the Rescue Rabbit style that runs several Normal Dinos.

Jurrac Astero likely didn’t need another effect, but Jurrac players will be happy it got it. Banishing two Jurrac monsters in the grave, one being this card, to Speical Summon a Jurrac Meteor as a Synchro Summon during the opponent’s turn is a grave-style Jurrac Volcano. I love how the new support has stayed loyal to Meteor and worked it into the core strategy of the archetype. Despite it board-wiping everything and giving you a Tuner in replacement, with Megalo now that isn’t a bad thing, and involving Meteor gives this archetype more ways to interact with the opponent, along with Astero’s negation and destruction power.

Fantastic Level 10 for the archetype and just what they needed. Lower stats for a Level 10 but possessing a great counter to the opponent’s Special Summon, as well as gets you a search on Synchro Summon and can replenish your field with a board-wipe from the grave, Jurrac Astero is likely the best Synchro in the archetype now. If there were more search targets that’d be great, but at least both can give you a lot of bang for your buck.

The week ends off with Jurrac’s new Level 10 Synchro that you will actually Synchro Summon: Jurrac Astero.

Astero is a Level 10 FIRE Dinosaur Synchro with 2500 ATK and 2300 DEF. So 300 ATK moves to DEF to honestly make the stats a little more subpar for a Level 10, but still fine. Materials are any Tuner and any non-Tuner Dinosaur monster(s), so much less required to summon this, which is good considering Ground Xeno is a good Tuner in Dinosaurs. If Synchro Summoned, you can set a Jurrac Spell/Trap directly from your Deck or graveyard, so it can get you to Volcano if you don’t already have it, otherwise you can set Jurrac Impact if you feel like you don’t have enough board wipes on the opponent’s turn. Once per turn, when the opponent would Special Summon a monster(s), you can banish 2 Dinosaurs from your graveyard to negate the summon and destroy that monster(s). Special Summon negation is pretty good to stop Extra Deck monsters from coming out, and being a soft once per turn works in the case you can summon multiple Astero. Finally, during the opponent’s turn, you get a Quick Effect to banish this and another Jurrac from your graveyard to Special Summon a Jurrac Meteor from the Extra Deck (treated as a Synchro Summon once again). The gimmick of Jurracs now has seemingly evolved into summoning Jurrac Meteor as much as you possibly can to constantly nuke the board, which is good to have access to when needed. It’s the best Jurrac Synchro we have now, being able to get to the Jurrac backrow, negate Special Summons, and offers more ways to summon Meteor on the opponent’s turn. The number you run should probably match the number of Meteors you run, which in most cases has been 3, whether in Dinosaurs or Decks just dumping cards from the Extra Deck to the graveyard, in which case you can run an extra of either the other Jurrac Synchros for a banish target with this to make use of the 3 Meteors. Still be nice if we get more Jurracs in the future so it can be a more pure Deck over the few good Jurracs we have now with the rest of the generic Dino goodstuff.

Once again, I’ve already spoiled this card multiple times this week, but it’s because it’s that important! Ending the week is the new boss monster of the Jurrac archetype, Jurrac Astero, a level 10 FIRE Dinosaur Synchro monster. It’s not totally impossible to make, requiring any Tuner and any number of non-Tuner Dinosaur monsters, though it will be difficult to make manually without using Jurrac Stego or other Dinosaur combo tools. If you have to make it ASAP, you can simply use Stego to send Jurrac Tyrannus, then summon any level 4 Jurrac and any combination of Jurrac Aeolo and Jurrac Megalo as you see fit– by climbing into Jurrac Velphito, and using Aeolo to revive Stego, you should have more than enough bodies for Astero. Much like Jurrac Meteor, its stats are also oddly underwhelming for a boss, with only 2500 attack and 2300 defense, so you’ll have to rely on Stego’s follow-up and Meteor to ensure OTK power.

Astero has 3 hard once per turn effects, a rarity even for Extra Deck monsters, and curiously enough only the second one is soft once per turn, though it’s not that easy to abuse it in the first place. Astero’s first effect triggers on Synchro Summon, letting you Set a Jurrac Spell or Trap directly from your deck or Graveyard. Jurrac Volcano is the obvious choice, since it helps extend your combos by destroying Dinosaurs and provides an alternative way to bring out Jurrac Meteor, though another consideration is Jurrac Impact for its nuke, which Astero conveniently has the stats for– it’ll be useful if you’re unable to use monster effects or you know you’re against a deck where you’ll want backrow-based disruption instead of monsters. Grabbing from the Graveyard also means you can trim a bit of space by running only 1 copy of Jurrac Volcano, though it’s up to personal taste whether running multiple copies as a combo starter is worth it or not. Astero’s second effect is a soft once per turn Quick Effect, usable when your opponent would Special Summon a monster to negate the summon and destroy that monster by banishing 2 Dinosaurs from your Graveyard. Summon negates (and similar effects, like D/D/D Wave High King Caesar) are seeing a rise in usefulness as we start seeing more decks with moving parts– and as a result, heavier reliance on having the appropriate bodies on the field. Yummy can be in a lot of trouble if you simply zap their Normal Summon, and Ryzeal hybrids can’t really do much if they don’t have enough bodies. Of course, the dreaded “would” timing limits versatility, but it’s still good for hitting key combo pieces. Astero’s final effect, another quick Effect, is the big one; while it’s in your Graveyard, you can banish it alongside another Jurrac monster from your Graveyard during your opponent’s turn to Special Summon Jurrac Meteor directly from your Extra Deck. Treated as a Synchro Summon, of course! This’ll be your primary disruption in this deck, and ideally you’ll have Jurrac Volcano up to keep your board safe as your opponent’s board hopefully goes extinct. This isn’t once per turn either, so it’s entirely possible to fire it off twice or even thrice, especially if your opponent gets rid of your Astero. Getting Astero into the Graveyard should be simple using Jurrac Megalo, and that makes Ground Xeno a neat emergency combo. Astero’s main issue is that it plays very heavily into the banish playstyle– too heavily, in fact. Your stronger combos rely on Miscellaenousaurus banishing 4 monsters, so that’s already 4 monsters lost to the void before being recycled with Overtex Qoatlus. Astero itself wants to banish 2 Dinosaurs for its effect, and its Graveyard effect will require you to banish both it and another Jurrac. On top of that, you’ll want a spare Dinosaur to banish for Jurrac Volcano to keep your board alive too. Still, Astero is an excellent boss monster that manages to make Meteor a solid disruption and make Jurrac actually function as a competent deck. Like with Meteor, you will probably find yourself running out of copies very quickly thanks to the Megalo play, so I’d run 3.

+Solid disruption on top of searching and recycling Jurrac Volcano and Impact
+Easily enables Jurrac Meteor during your opponent’s turn
-Can quickly run out of banish fodder in certain combo lines
-VERY easy to run out of copies and resources without banish recyclers
