A way to raise an army, Genemorph Imago starts out unassuming…but looks can be deceiving. If you hit a land play on-curve, this jumps to a 3/3 with evasion to put an opponent on a clock, and when the game grinds to a later stage, it can instead become a 6/6 (a much better threat). That said, this creature needn’t buff just itself, because it can readily and happily spread the love elsewhere, potentially to things with better keywords. This takes a bit of effort to get going, but not a ton, and the payoff can pay off quite nicely.

Limited: 4.25 (this can make any creature workable)
Multiplayer: 3.5

In the category signpost cards, EoE delivers very clear options. Simic consistently ramps up and then goes (very) wide with a range of small and bigger creatures. Lots of green creatures let you make Lander tokens and with the lands from those tokens you quickly build up a large mana base. Then all of a sudden you have a powerful creature every turn you play a land. Add to that the Simic signpost uncommon from this set, Biomechan Engineer, and you’re suddenly paying 8 and drawing cards and making tokens!

I love these little quirks that somehow work so well together. Galactic Wayfarer is another one of those cards that immediately come to mind, as well as Edge Rover. Add to that blue cards like Divert Disaster, and you’re a force to be reckoned with.

Genemorph Imago has an ability that can look slightly hard to use – at first glance. But that’s because we’ve been trained to look for explosive gameplay from landfall triggers, with multiple fetchlands and the like. Even using the Imago’s ability comparatively honestly can make sure you’re always attacking with a substantial creature. And I think it’s funny that it scales up so much to the late game, because it implies that they think a lot of people need to fight through Titans on a consistent basis. Some people probably do, of course, but it seems more like you’ll be the one using this to exert Titan-level pressure on your playgroup.
