This is another card name that actually didn’t have to be exclusive to a Spider-Man set, although it was probably inevitable that it would debut in one. If they decide to lean further into depictions of ordinary city life in Ravnica (as they started in both Return to Ravnica and Guilds of Ravnica), it would work there too. On top of that, tokens will always be popular, and it tries to address the issue of white’s random 1/1s sometimes feeling small. It’s technically a self-feeding card or one-card combo, but it feels much less egregious than some because you still have to attack or otherwise make use of the power boost. That can be a downside in power-maxing settings, though I’d say it’s cancelled out by the fact that sometimes it wins games effectively and always pushes them towards a conclusion.

As a fan of Alara, I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that this particular buff is close to paralleling the exalted keyword. The block’s twentieth anniversary is not too far off, and since then Elspeth has visited her birthplace but not her spiritual home. It’s time.

Well, there goes the neighborhood.

Friendly Neighborhood is certainly flavorful, and it somewhat bypasses one of the common aura issues we normally see. The main attraction is the ability to use the land to empower a creature with the rest of your bodies chipping in, and that’s certainly an interesting approach; white historically likes going wide, and this weaponizes it well (while even giving three bodies to bolster the target in a pinch).

This isn’t a star, but I do think it does a lot of interesting things all at once. As a four-mana three-creature spell with occasional upshot besides, I’d say this will likely find its footing. It’s not the most efficient at what it does, but it does enough that I can see it having a
