Hello Pojo Fans,
Dragon’s Mind has been a good trap in waiting for the TCG and now it’s here, but it can’t be used by everyone.
Solemn Judgment if you control a monster with 2500 original ATK or DEF…so Regenesis. Okay, so there’s A LOT of monsters that fulfill the requirement to use this card, and a lot of them are meta or within range of the meta currently: Diabellstar, Goblin Biker Gone Bonkers, previously-mentioned Regenesis monsters, Dark Magician, Bystial monsters, some Despian monsters, Albaz Fusion Monsters, and those are just some of them that meet the criteria for the 2500ATK, for 2500DEF I’ll just mention Blue-Eyes White Dragon and keep moving along. There’s pretty much a monster(s) in every archetype that can meet this requirement and if you asked any player if they’d like to fit three Solemn Judgments into their Deck that cost nothing to activate, they’d say they would love them.
As for a second effect, here is where the LP paying comes into play. Paying 2500LP (keeping with the theme) to set this card from the grave back onto the field for another go before it gets banished is a pretty good effect. It would allow you to play three less control cards or give you the feeling like you are playing nine Solemn Judgments. Now, lets be fair, you aren’t using each copy twice in a game, it’s just not happening. If you haven’t finished them or gotten finished before the second copy then you either drew them in quick succession or this is a grinding game that doesn’t get seen too often. That being said, even with your opponent knowing what you just set back on the field, and it costing 2500LP, that can be cheaper than Solemn Judgment when you’re above 5000LP and if you run enough monsters that are 2500ATK or DEF, or, your main monster(s) are matching that stat, this is a great card for you to use. On top of that, you can use Dragon’s Mind and set it back to the field all in the same turn.
There’s an abundance of these kinds of Trap Cards in the game, it seems like every archetype gets one that tries to flow with the strategy of the archetype. Dragon’s Mind is different though, as it can be used by anyone that can run a 2500ATK or DEF monster. It remains a Counter Trap so it is still as fast as Solemn Judgment, costs less than it most of the time, and can be set back to the field for that mentioned cost. A pretty darn good card that is Common rarity in the Alliance Insight set.

Next up is a brand new Counter Trap that only works with monsters with specific, but fairly common stat numbers: Dragon’s Mind.
Dragon’s Mind is a Counter Trap where when a Spell/Trap Card or monster effect is activated while you control a monster with an original ATK or DEF of 2500, you can negate and destroy that card. It’s an omni-negation if your Deck has a monster with 2500 in either ATK or DEF, which is a fairly common number with a bunch of targets you might see on an end board. Ryzeal has Detonator with 2500 DEF and Duo Drive with 2500 ATK while Maliss has Hearts Crypter with her 2500 ATK and they also run Firewall Dragon with 2500 ATK, speaking of which all the anime aces of course work with this. The most obvious Deck is Regenesis since they are all 2500/2500, and you have Eldlich the Golden Lord with his 2500 ATK. Primite could also easily put out a Normal Monster with 2500 ATK or DEF, with the most obvious targets being Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Even if you won’t see this in every Deck with a 2500 monster, it’s something to note if your Deck commonly summons a monster with that stat and keeps it on its end board, especially since this can also recover itself from the graveyard by paying 2500 LP (of course), but it’s banished if it leaves the field. No cost to activate, but a cost to get it back to reuse, even if just once. HOPT on each effect, as you can expect. Dragon’s Mind isn’t going to be super common, but a Deck that can consistently have the monster on field that makes this usable should at least consider it for a free negate that could get itself back with a cost. It’s another interesting, yet solid card.

Oh how I have missed doomposted cards! Today’s card saw a lot of buzz on reveal but the hype quickly fizzled out– it’s Dragon’s Mind, a Counter Trap with 2 hard once per turn effects. It can be activated in response to any Spell or Trap card or monster effect activation as long as you control a monster with an original attack or defense stat of 2500, negating that activation and destroying the card. Additionally, Dragon’s Mind will let you pay 2500 Life Points to Set it directly to your Spell/Trap Zone from your Graveyard, though it’ll be banished the next time it leaves the field. People were sounding the alarm since many meta decks currently field monsters with such a stat spread; Ryzeal Detonator and Duo Drive both have 2500 in their stat spreads, Maliss Q Hearts Crypter has 2500 attack, Blue-Eyes White Dragon has 2500 defense, and so on. Bystial hybrids and the Regenesis archetype are also chock full of monsters with a 2500 stat. An omni negate that’s basically free and recycles itself? Sounds broken! On top of that, while Counter Traps aren’t too common these days, it’s easy to forget that they’re almost impossible to interact with without your own Counter Traps. Alas, the card has failed to be a significant meta tech for a simple reason: being winmore. It’s not that much better than cards like Solemn Judgment, which already barely sees play because you want to see much more impactful cards when going second, not for going first. Hand Traps and blowout techs are preferable in the current meta– you don’t really need a stronger endboard if you’re playing a decent deck. Sure, some decks would appreciate the extra omni negate– Ryzeal in particular has a bad time against backrow-based boardbreakers, but generally it’s not recommended to play techs like this unless you know what you’re doing. While not widespread, Dragon’s Mind is seeing a bit of play in the Side Deck for going first, so it’s doing something! Overall, if you’re playing a deck that will basically always field a monster with a 2500 stat, it’s a worthy Side Deck consideration, but it’s not a 3x staple as some people made it out to be.
+Powerful omni negate Counter Trap
+Fairly easy to splash with many current meta decks
-Much less useful going second like many turn 1 techs
-Fielding a 2500 stat monster isn’t always guaranteed
