Crowley, the Gifted Magistus – #BLMM-EN044

If this face-up card is used as Fusion Material, its name can be treated as “Aleister the Invoker”. You can only use each of the following effects of “Crowley, the Gifted Magistus” once per turn. If this card is added to your hand, except by drawing it: You can Special Summon it. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned (except during the Damage Step): You can Fusion Summon 1 “Magistus” or “Invoked” Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters from your hand or field.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Crowley, the Gifted Magistus is a good starting point for our look at new Magistus support.

A new support for Magistus as well as Invoked, Crowley becomes Alesister when used as a Fusion Material, giving you access to any of the Invoked Fusion options. Solid stats as a Level 4 monster, Crowley becomes an extender when added to your hand. While there are several ways to add him to your hand, the best (Spoon, the Seal of Magistus) is not in the TCG yet.

When summoned, Crowley is an immediate Fusion Summon starter for Magistus or Invoked, using hand or field as fodder. Not needing a Fusion-style card to Fusion Summon is handy, especially when the card can activate the effect upon summon, and is an extender as well. Zoroa, the Magistus of Flame can equip Artemis from the Extra Deck to itself, which then allows you to search Crowley, which then Special Summons Crowley, enabling your Fusion potential. Aiwass, the Magistus Spell Spirit can be Fusion Summoned this way and becomes a Snatch Steal. Invoked Purgatrio is a Fusion Summon of Zoroa and Crowley that can attack all monsters once and does piercing, as well as gains for each card your opponent controls. If you wanted something different off this combo, Magistus Chorozo is an option if you link off one of the two, and Zoroa’s new form on Friday is also a good option.

Crowley the Gifted Magistus is an upgrade versus some of his other forms. While he doesn’t search like his Invoked version, he is an extender that can perform a Fusion Summon without needing a Fusion Spell. Good support for Magistus and Invoked as they both get a Fusion starter that is searchable within their archetypes.

New Magistus cards to coincide with the OCG Chronicles manga that we sadly never get over here, starting the week with Aleister the Invoker’s adventures as a Magistus with Crowley, the Gifted Magistus.

Crowley, the Gifted Magistus is a Level 4 DARK Spellcaster with 1800 ATK and 1000 DEF. Inverse of Aleister’s stats makes for a better lineup, and a DARK Spellcaster is pretty good. If this face-up card is used as Fusion Material, its name can be treated as Aleister the Invoker, meaning you get access to the Invoked Fusions in Magistus with greater ease now so you can summon Mechaba or Caliga. The remaining effects are each HOPT, first triggering if this card is added to your hand, except by drawing it, letting you Special Summon this card from the hand. This would be great if Spoon was released in the TCG, but for now you rely on equipping Artemis to the Level 4 Zoroa to search for it, which is still a fine way to get to it. Dracotail can also run this and recover it with Arthalion to summon the Invoked Fusions since he does Special Summon himself when added from grave to hand as well. If Normal or Special Summoned, you can Fusion Summon an Invoked or Magistus Fusion using monsters from your hand or field, letting you summon your Invoked monsters or some of the solid Magistus Fusions like Aiwass or the new Zoroa Fusion, as well as Invoked Magistus Omega when we also get that. Crowley is solid for Magistus, giving you more access to the Invoked lineup as well as the Magistus Fusions. Play a few copies in Magistus, though it’ll be easier to justify less when we get Spoon if you wanted as small a Magistus engine in your Fusion Deck as possible while still getting the benefits. Pure should stick to multiples probably.

With the Terminal World support out of the way, we can finally get to the other new support in Monster Mayhem, and this week it’s the Magistus support. It would have been an amazing wave, if we had gotten their bombshell cards from the manga, but unfortunately we didn’t, so Magistus fans will have to wait a little longer for their time to shine. Today’s card is not Spoon, it’s Crowley, the Gifted Magistus, yet another form of Aleister that’s still a level 4 DARK Spellcaster. Artemis, the Magistus Moon Maiden is the main way to search it for now, but once we get Spoon, that’ll open up a ton of combo lines. True to form, Crowley retains the Aleister stat spread of 1800 attack and 1000 defense. Expect to see more of that.

Crowley has a unique name clause, letting itself be treated as Aleister the Invoker if you’re using it as a Fusion material on the field. This’ll let you summon the Invoked Fusions without being forced to run Aleister proper, which was technically always possible, but annoying since Aleister itself isn’t a Magistus name. Usually, this is only relevant for summoning Invoked Mechaba or Invoked Purgatrio, but Crowley has a much better usage that we’ll get to soon enough! As far as activated effects go, Crowley has 2 of them, both of them hard once per turn. The first is the typical Poplar effect, triggering if it’s added to your hand (except by drawing) to let you Special Summon it. This leads into Crowley’s final effect, triggering if it’s Normal or Special Summoned to let you Fusion Summon an Invoked or Magistus monster using your hand or field. Sadly, no Guardian Chimera this time, but there are still fun targets! During your own turn, it’s an easy way to make the new Magistus boss monster– in fact, Rilliona, the Wondrous Magistus Witch Wardrobe will be able to enable it on its own. During your opponent’s turn, you can use Verre Magic – Lacrima of Light to directly summon Crowley or use the new Link monster (yeah, we’re missing a lot of those) to add Crowley back to your hand then summon it, letting you go into the new Magistus Fusion monster for more disruption. Unfortunately, the fact that it’s a Trigger effect is both a blessing and a curse, as it can be awkward to weave into combo lines where you want to Fusion Summon early, since you won’t have a chance to summon an Extra Deck monster as fodder after searching Crowley. Overall, Crowley’s a great Fusion enabler in the deck that I’d run at 1 or 2 copies, but its potential is held back until we get Spoon. BRING US SPOON!

+Great Fusion enabler for both combos and disruption
+Enables Invoked Fusions in Magistus combo lines
-Potential garnet since it has to be added to the hand
-Can be awkward to use its Fusion effect since it’s a Trigger

Art: 3.75/5 How many times are we gonna get Aleister before he went crazy? Presumably a few more. At least he has Chorozo with him.
