The Fabled Behilmoth – #BLMM-EN012
If this card is in your hand: You can discard 2 or more “Fabled” monsters, including this card, and if you do, Special Summon 1 “Fabled” Synchro Monster from your Extra Deck whose Level equals the discarded monsters’ total original Levels (this is treated as a Synchro Summon). If a card(s) is sent from your hand to the GY, while this card is in your GY (except during the Damage Step): You can banish this card; Special Summon 1 “Fabled” monster from your hand. You can only use each effect of “The Fabled Behilmoth” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,
It is a Fabled Week here on CoTD, wasn’t expecting them to see any support in the new set but it’s refreshing to see old archetypes get new support. We’re beginning with The Fabled Behilmoth.
Behilmoth, like many Fabled monsters, is small. 1000ATK/600DEF isn’t scaring anyone, but the point of these kinds of monsters (most of the time) is to get their archetypes going. Behilmoth can Special Summon a Fabled Synchro rather than itself by discarding two or more Fabled monsters and itself is included (awesome). The Levels discarded have to match though, but it is considered a Synchro Summon, so two of the Fabled Synchro Monsters won’t miss out on their effects. Synchro Summoning tomorrow’s CoTD choice as a Synchro Summon sets up continued Synchro climbing as well as only will cost you another Level 2 to pair with Behilmoth. The usual suspects are available as well to provide advantage through Special Summon alongside the Synchro Summon: Cerburrel, Lurrie, and Catsith can destroy a face-up card.
Banish to Special Summon a Fabled monster from your hand is a utility ability to continue the Extra Deck summons, especially when all it takes is a card being sent from your hand to the grave…in Fabled…yeah, this effect is happening the same turn this card hits the grave. This is in perfect step with Fabled Grimro’s ability to search out a Fabled from Deck and add it to your hand. This makes summoning Fabled Dianaira (if played in your build) easy, eliminating the tribute a Fabled clause to Normal Summon this. More times than not though this is just used to continue to spam the board with Tuner monsters for Synchro Summons.
Not game-breaking by any means but not a bad card to start off the support. It’s a Tuner, can get several effects of Fabled monsters going depending on which ones you discard/run, and can be a recovery tool for you if your discard is stopped by an opponent’s card effect, or be a little more gas for board building. It may not Special Summon itself, but it gets you to Synchros pretty easily.

New Fableds this week after a 4-year hiatus as we start Battles of Legend coverage, starting the week off with a brand new Tuner for the archetype: The Fabled Behilmoth.
Behilmoth is a Level 2 LIGHT Beast Tuner with 1000 ATK and 600 DEF. Fine stats considering it’s a Level 2, LIGHT is always nice, and Beast pairs well with the Attribute now. First effect triggers in the hand, letting you discard 2 or more Fabled monsters, including this card, to Special Summon any Fabled Synchro from the Extra Deck whose Level equals the combined Levels of the discarded monsters, treating it as a Synchro Summon. It’s simple enough to just discard this and another of the Level 2s in the archetype like Krus are Ceruburrel to make a Level 4 like Unicore for a negate or Gammajin for extension, or add Fabled Lurrie to make Ragin and get a draw 2 if your hand size is low. This will also trigger your Fabled abilities, most of which will summon themselves or other monsters as well so you can Synchro Summon some more. If a card is sent from your hand to the graveyard while this is already in the graveyard, you can banish it to Special Summon a Fabled from your hand, which is extra free extension for Synchro combos and can summon some of the bigger Fableds like Soulkius. Each effect is a HOPT, of course. It’s pretty good Fabled support, giving you ways to Synchro Summon while discarding your Fableds for their discard effects, and discarding more can get you an extra body on the field. A great addititon to the Fabled Deck.

No time to reflect on the past, we’re leaving Alliance Insight behind and covering the legacy support from Monster Mayhem, starting with the rather ill-fated Fabled support. The Fabled Behilmoth is our first card, a level 2 LIGHT Beast Tuner monster (slow down, Fiendsmith fans!). Stairway to a Fabled Realm, Fabled Grimro, and tomorrow’s card, Fabled Gammajin, are the most reliable ways to search it, which is a little depressing to think about. Thankfully, it is a level 2 Beast, so it’s a decent target for Rescue Cat. That said, also depressingly, you’ll be forced to run The Fabled Nozoochee for level 4 Synchros since it’s the only non-Tuner level 2 Fabled Beast, so I wish Bahilmoth wasn’t a Tuner in this case. Such is life! Statwise, Behilmoth is fittingly pretty bad as a level 2 Tuner, with only 1000 attack and 600 defense, but at least it’s a search target for Cupid Pitch in Synchro combo-focused builds.
Behilmoth comes with 2 hard once per turn effects; we’re mainly looking at the first one, which will let you discard it and at least 1 other Fabled monster to Special Summon a Fabled monster directly from your Extra Deck with a level equal to the total levels of the discarded monsters, and it’s treated as a Synchro Summon. Yep, Behilmoth will effectively let you Synchro Summon using your hand, and trigger your Fabled effects in the process. In pure builds, I recommend running a high volume of level 2 Fableds since it’s the most reliable way (besides Rescue Cat) to get to Fabled Gammajin, which will quickly get to their new boss monster. Fortunately, there’s no Tuner stipulation, so we can use the other Fabled Tuners like The Fabled Abanc and The Fabled Cerburrel in this case. Behilmoth’s other effect is one of my least favorite type of effects in the game, triggering if any card is sent from your hand to the Graveyard while Behilmoth is in your Graveyard to let you banish Behilmoth and Special Summon a Fabled monster from your hand. As a general rule of thumb, I do not like extending from the hand, and it feels especially egregious in a deck like Fabled that would appreciate more Special Summons from the Graveyard instead. Still, I guess it’s better than nothing at all, and in a pinch it can help field a LIGHT Fiend to, of course, go into Fiendsmith combos. Behilmoth’s first effect is pretty good, but Fabled needs a lot more work before it can ascend beyond being a mediocre Fiendsmith hybrid. Run 3 anyway, you’ll want to run a lot of level 2s to get to Gammajin.
+Lets you Synchro Summon from your hand and get advantage from your Fabled discard effects
+Low-level Beast for Rescue Cat
-Requires running a large volume of level 2 Fabled monsters for best use
-Graveyard effect is mediocre if you can’t build enough advantage
