Borreload Savage Dragon
Borreload Savage Dragon

#3 – Borreload Savage Dragon
– #SAST-EN037

1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can equip 1 Link Monster from your GY to this card, and if you do, place Borrel Counters on this card equal to that Link Monster’s Link Rating. This card gains ATK equal to half the ATK of the monster equipped to it by its effect. When your opponent activates a card or effect (Quick Effect): You can remove 1 Borrel Counter from this card; negate the activation. You can only use this effect of “Borreload Savage Dragon” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

This one had to be on the countdown, and at the #3 spot is about where I thought this would end up: Borreload Savage Dragon

Synchro monsters make a return with this Level 8. Easy generic materials. You need to have a Link Monster in your graveyard to have this monster mean something more then just a big beater. Equip and get up to four negations. Each turn you can use that negation ability for any card effect. If that wasn’t enough, BSD gets an ATK boost from the equipped Link Monster by half its ATK. You should get at least one negation and 500ATK boost, but players are regularly making Skull Dread and equipping it to Savage Dragon for 1400ATK boost and four negations, making BSD a whopping 4400ATK. One-card negation in a boss monster that will hold down any attacking monsters because its ATK lifts higher then any other monster you’ll likely see.

Any deck running a Tuner can make this, any deck can get a Link Monster into the grave. With Master Rule 5 allowing Fusion, Xyz and Synchro monsters to summon directly to the Main Monster Zone, it is unknown how much Link Monsters will be played aside from boss Link Monsters that give you great advantage. Despite that, I think this card will not be going anywhere. It is just too good.

Earlier in the countdown we saw the Fusion form of Borreload Dragon and now at the Number 3 spot we have its Synchro counterpart, Borreload Savage Dragon.

BSD is a Level 8 DARK Dragon Synchro with 3000 ATK and 2500 DEF. Good stats here just like with Furious Dragon, and that type/attribute combo seems common this year on the list. The summoning materials are more generic vs Furious Dragon as it only needs any Tuner along with any non-Tuner(s), which is easy to do to summon a Level 8. If Synchro Summoned, you can target a Link Monster in your graveyard and equip it to this card for it to gain ATK equal to half the ATK of the Link Monster as well as Borrel Counters equal to that monster’s Link Rating. The most counters you could get with this currently is 6 as we have a Link-6 coming soon, but more realistically you’ll probably have 1-3 counters and about 500-1250 ATK boosted. The ATK boost leaves once the monster is no longer equipped, but at least the counters would stay, because when your opponent activates a card or effect, you can negate said effect by removing a counter from this card. It can negate anything, which is great overall and it’s easy to get counters with Link Climbing into a big Link Monster and still being able to make plays that get you into monsters like this. It’s fairly easy to set this up with a few negations, so it’s fitting that the negation effect is a hard once per turn since pure negation like that multiple times a turn can get a little bonkers. It’s a great Synchro monster in Decks that have no issue getting Link Monsters in the graveyard, I could of seen it on the Top 10 Synchros of all time we did a year ago as it’s that good.

My #3:  Borreload Furious Dragon
This cards position on my list:  #4

I think I mentioned last week I don’t always do so well on these countdowns, but through 10 cards, 5 of mine made the list, so one more makes me at half, and Alex feels good about that.

Dark, Dragon, Level 8 Synchro with 3000 attack and 2500 defense, these are good things.  A Synchro Summon here is performed by a Tuner Monster and 1+ Non-Tuner Monsters.  So, in short, if you Synchro Summon this card, you can equip a Link Monster from your Graveyard to it, and if so, you place Borrel Counters on this card equal to that Monsters Link Rating.

There’s an attack increase, where BSD gets attack equal to half the Link Monster equipped to it by the previous effect.  At 3000 base attack, even a minor increase is going to turn this card into a juggernaut.  3500-4500 shouldn’t be that hard to obtain, or even more, obviously depending on what you have in the Graveyard at the time you use that effect.

Finally, for a Quick Effect, we have negation.  If your opponent activates a card OR effect, by discarding a Borrel Counter, you can negate the activation of said card.  This is great, and more versatile than it may look initially.  Effect here is optional, so if the card/effect won’t hurt you or you choose not to stop it, you don’t have to.  It is once per turn, so that helps balance a powerful effect on a powerful card.

Art:  5/5  Definitely a Machine, could easily be a Psychic also, but I guess you can get Dragon from the head at least?  The body is rather bland, but the bright blue explosion in the sky behind is awesome, and the dark and orange on the ground (or bottom space) is great too!
