I think it’s interesting that we’re starting to see a couple of cards that get around the “Commander tax”. Road of Return is a pretty fair way to do so, as you still have to cast your commander for their normal cost, but your opponent might have been hoping that that card would be priced out of the game for a while. For any commander that has a high-value comes-into-play ability, it’s a strong support card, speeding up the accumulation of said value. And the rest of the time, it’s Nature’s Spiral, which has always been a good card. I could see this card getting a lot of play with certain commanders in particular.

This is a pretty cool bit of tech for a Commander deck because of its two abilities: being able to pull your commander into your hand helps a fair bit with late-game casting of your commander (and can allow for shenanigans), and it also doubles as another copy of Nature’s Spiral. A two-for-one is always a good deal, but being a one-for-one is still a passable enough value. Road of Return is a slightly clunkier Nature’s Spiral outside of Commander, and being a worse version of an already mediocre card isn’t great…but you can still so Stuff and Things if you need it to, and it has the ability to do a lot of great things in a deck that can benefit from it.
