Gogogo Goblindbergh – #DUAD-EN003
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 non-Warrior “Gogogo” monster from your hand, Deck, or GY, then if this card is in Attack Position, change it to Defense Position, also for the rest of this turn, you cannot Special Summon from the Extra Deck, except Xyz Monsters. If this card is detached from an Xyz Monster to activate that monster’s effect: You can add 1 “Dododo” monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only use each effect of “Gogogo Goblindbergh” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Gogogo Goblindbergh begins a week where we’re reviewing the new support for archetypes that band together to Xyz Summon together: “Zubaba”, “Gagaga”, “Gogogo”, and “Dododo”.
Much like the original Goblindbergh, Gogogo Goblindbergh can Special Summon something when it is Normal Summon. However, unlike the original, this has to be a non-Warrior “Gogogo” monster from the hand, Deck, or Graveyard. Where the original Special Summoned a Level 4 or lower from the hand, this Goblindbergh expands the reach of its effect, but also narrows the scope of what you summon. Changing to defense is the same at the previous version, but in this case, you also get locked into Xyz Special Summons from the Extra Deck. Thankfully, you can Xyz Summon outside of the archetypes mentioned at the beginning of this review. The two best to select for this effect would be Dodododwarf Gogogoglove, which can Special Summon a Zubaba or Gagaga from the hand, or Gogogo Ghost if Gogogo Golem is in your grave so it can be Special Summoned by Ghost to get you three materials for an Xyz Summon requiring 3 or more monsters.
Now, because you are locked into Xyz Summons, it is good that Gogogo Goblindbergh has an effect for that. A RoTa for Dododo monsters when you detach Gogogo Goblindbergh. Of those choices, Gogogoglove once again is a good target choice, but also tomorrow’s card: Dodododo Warrior (not to be confused with the same named monster with one less “do” in their name), which can Foolish Burial a Dododo monster to facilitate Warrrior’s Special Summon.
There are a lot of long names being thrown around and a lot of archetypes as well, so I’ll be blunt: This version of Goblindbergh is a good setup for at the very least a Rank 4 Xyz Summon that also gets you a singular archetype search, but not its own archetype. Of that archetype search, tomorrow’s monster can also be used for an archetype search if detached as a material for an effect…but once again, not its own archetype. These archetypes cycle through one another but not always their own, so playing this kind if strategy requires balance between the archetypes to attain the best synergy. Probably could’ve made it simpler and had this Goblindbergh search all those archetypes but it does a good job even with just one, just not as wide-reaching as its predecessor.

Time for more fun to say names as we have Onomat support to look at this week, looking at Goblindbergh and Gogogo Golem combining together for Gogogo Goblindbergh.
Gogogo Goblindbergh is a Level 4 EARTH Warrior with 1400 ATK and 0 DEF. I see we choose to copy Goblindbergh’s stats over Gogogo Golem’s much better ones, but being an EARTH monster is nice and Warrior makes it extra searchable with RotA. When Normal Summoned, you can Special Summon a non-Warrior Gogogo directly from the hand, Deck, or graveyard, then you swap this card to Defense Position if it was in Attack, also you can only summon Xyzs from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn. Fine restriction in a Deck mostly going to use Xyz Monsters anyways, this is solid to kickstart your plays by summoning Dodododwarf Gogogoglove or Onomatokage directly from your Deck to make a Rank 4, detach them, and be able to revive them later off their own effects. If this is detached from an Xyz Monster to activate that monster’s effect, you can add any Dododo monster from the Deck to the hand, which can be Utopic Onomatopeia or Onomatokage, but most likely will be Dodododo Warrior if you don’t already have access to him, extending your Xyz Summoning plays even more while giving graveyard setup. HOPT on both effects, of course. Gogogo Goblindbergh is a pretty good potential starter for the Onomat strategy, able to turbo out the first of your many Rank 4 monsters you’ll be able to make to attempt to get into bigger Number Xyzs. Play 3 in Onomat of course.
In Genesys, Onomat is more of the premiere Rank 4 Deck due to Ryzeal having a heavy point count dedicated to 5 cards, while Onomat only has Onomatopaira, which is easy to search. Still a 3-of for Onomat in that format, where it’ll likely perform much better with a bunch of strong Xyzs still in that format with little to no point cost you can use.

Genesys Rating: 4.25/5
Art: 4/5 Gogogo Golem is going for a ride.

We’re finally diving into the cover theme of Duelist Alliance with the Onomat support, starting with a retrain of one of Yuma’s favorite monsters, Gogogo Goblindbergh. It’s once again a level 4 EARTH Warrior monster, and because of its name, you can hilariously search it with Goblin Biker cards, if you fancy a weird hybrid. In practice, you’ll usually be grabbing it with Gagagaga Ganbara Knight or Onomatopaira. Goblindbergh’s stats will also be staying the same for a pretty poor 1400 attack and 0 defense. I guess they don’t teach dogfighting in flight school.
Many things change, like Goblindbergh having 2 hard once per turn effects this time, but some things stay the same. Goblindbergh’s first effect triggers on Normal Summon only, letting you Special Summon any non-Warrior Gogogo monster from your hand, deck, or Graveyard, then changing itself to Defense Position (if it somehow was not already in Defense Position). It’ll also lock you into Xyz monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn, but if you’re playing Onomat, you probably don’t mind. The non-Warrior part is specifically there to stop us from summoning Utopic Onomatopoeia for some reason (and another Goblindbergh, but that’s irrelevant), which mostly leaves us with the Rock Gogogo monsters, which as a whole are pretty depressing. Dodododwarf Gogogoglove is easily the best among them for its versatile summoning effects, though Gogogo Gigas is decent as a secondary target. Fortunately, Doom of Dimensions gives us Onomatokage, a Gogogo monster by name clause and a perfect secondary target to summon if you already have access to Dwarf and don’t want to play Gigas. In any case, this’ll easily set up a Rank 4 summon– obviously a good thing, but that also helps set up Goblindbergh’s other effect. It triggers if it’s detached as an Xyz material to activate that monster’s effect (very specific wording; there are fringe cases where it won’t trigger, like, ironically, with some Goblin Biker effects that detach from anywhere), letting you search any Dododo monster. If you didn’t already search it, Dwarf is a great monster to grab here, but tomorrow’s card is also an excellent consideration. Goblindbergh enables more of the same in Onomat; extremely aggressive Rank 4 swarming tactics, so honestly it really doesn’t change the game much. Only triggering on Normal Summon, a callback to the original, also kind of stings, though at least it doesn’t really have to fight for the Normal Summon outside of Ryzeal hybrids, where Ice Ryzeal will sometimes try to hog it. In pure builds, you’ll probably want to play 3 since it’s still a combo starter and adds a buttload of consistency, but in hybrid builds (particularly Ryzeal) you can get away with one or none; Onomat’s combo game is already on-point.
This will be true for the whole week, so I might as well mention it here– as a modern deck that doesn’t need or use Links at all, Onomat is in a pretty decent spot in Genesys by default, so these guys will get a little boost. Now we just have to wait for them to start topping…
+Great 1-card combo starter that also enables extension
+Can enable Onomat combo lines in Goblin hybrids
-Only triggers on Normal Summon and targets are somewhat limited
-Competes with Ice Ryzeal in Ryzeal hybrids

Art: 3.75/5 Very on-the-nose, but fun. It took an embarrassingly long time for me to realize GOBLINdbergh was a literal goblin and not some kind of weird owl…
