Expensive reanimation spells don’t usually get much of a look, but Perennation comes with a bonus – and then some. To be fair, you arguably expect a reward for committing strongly to three colors, and if your group responded to your playing reanimator decks by using progressively cheaper interaction spells, this is the card you want. It’s probably more of use as a second round or resilience measure for some kind of value-generating card that you want to stay in play, rather than cheating something out. If you’re getting Atraxa into play, you should be just about winning on the spot regardless of when you do it, and regardless of whether your opponent has Swords to Plowshares. And coming back to that key term – “permanent” instead of “creature” – Perennation takes on a different dimension when you factor planeswalkers into the equation.

For when you want that permanent to just not die…not that this makes it completely impervious, but it’s a good start. Perennation makes a permanent very hard to interact with, for a fair price; six mana is a heavy investment, to be sure, but giving something hexproof and indestructible is a good way to make sure that sticks around. While the inclination will probably be to aim this at something that can push hard, this can still be useful for getting back a combo piece needed to make everything run. I’d definitely be careful with this spell…it’s not indomitable, but it can make a given something very hard to deal with, and sometimes that’s all you need.

Limited: 4 (can just win off the back of something scary enough)
