I really like Tarkir: Dragonstorm overall, but one of the areas where I think they could have been more careful is with the styling of some of the names. “New Way Forward” sounds like it could be a Saga as easily as a spell, if not more so. Either way, it’s about as devastating as the legendary “dim mak” or touch of death attacks attributed to the martial arts the Jeskai draw inspiration from. Five mana is a lot for a damage redirection effect, but really you’re paying for the card drawing part, and it should be effectively winning the game on the spot every time you pull it off. If all you want is a combat trick, you would stick to the cheaper variants; if you want to do something your friends are going to be talking about in weeks to come, this card is the way (pun partially intended).

No Way Forward feels a fair bit like a powered-up Deflecting Palm, with the mana cost to match its power. Make no mistake, this cam make for quite the blowout, turning damage against you into card draw and damage to where it originated, which can be enough to crack a game open. That said, five mana is the main sticking point here, and it’s a bit of a doozy; the issue is that a five-mana combat trick telegraphs itself, and while this is certainly a blowout if it goes off, five mana is still a lot. That said, it’s a good defensive measure to have in your belt if you’re in the colors, and damage redirection has those times where it can crack a game open surprisingly fast.
