Duel Masters Tourney Reports

Horus Beatdown GeneralZorpa Davis California 1/29/06

Hi everybody! This report is from a little shop in Davis California. I showed up a little early to get some trades for my Solemn Judgement and DMoC. SO by the end of trading and bartering My deck looked like this:

Monsters x 22

Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 8

Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 6 (x 2)

Goblin Attack Force (x3)

Goblin Elite Attack Force

Spear Dragon (x2)

Exarion Universe

Breaker the Magical Warrior

Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 4 (x2)

Twin Headed Behemoth

Dekoichi the Battle-Chanted Locomotive

Tsukuyomi

Exiled Force

Sangan

Cyber Jar

Mystic Swordsman LV 2

Magician of Faith

Spirit Reaper

Spells x 13

Fissure

Dark Hole

Enemy Controller

Lightning Vortex

Snatch Steal

Brain Control (x2)

Heavy Storm

Confiscation

Pot of Avarice

Swords of Revealing Light

Premature Burial

Mystical Space Typhoon

Traps x 5

Torrential Tribute

Call of the Haunted

Dust Tornado

Sakuretsu Armor

Magic Cylinder

SO we have a pretty good turnout for a store like us. Bizarro World just bought out two other places, but the origional store in Davis is TINY.9 people showed up in a space that was about the size of my dorm room. We play a double elimination format so that the tourney lasts longer. Most of the decks are pretty CC, but there are an abnormally large number of Spellcaster variations. HMMM! I wonder why that is....? Anyway I get some good trades, including a Sacred Phoenix, Pot of Avarice, and Magician’s Circle. As well as a bunch of other commons for my little brother. The elite of the tourney was just hangin out waiting for the tourney to start, so I played a few games with my Phoenix Beastdown with Apprentice Magician. I must say that I am impressed. I get the phoenix out every duel and my Lei Lei’s beat the living day lights out of every Cyber Dragon (HAHA! Take that you persistent pest!). And the tourney starts. Game 1 is me VS...

Game 1 GeneralZorpa VS Drew

I know Drew pretty well. He pretty much organizes the tourneys for the owner of the store. He also runs a pretty predictable warrior deck. I am pretty excited though, he is a tough opponent.

The first game, Drew won the toss and started off aggressively actually, with an Enraged Battle Ox in attack position. He had a trap face-down too, and it turned out to be Blast with Chain when I rammed my Goblin Elite Attack Force into it. Pretty much the rest of the duel I got schooled by his endless Mataza’s and other warriors. The last play was when I had a LV 2 on the field and Sangan with 200 LP. He has nothing on the field and is top decking. I have a Magic Cylinder face down just in case, but he pulls a RotA on me and gets E-Hero Wildheart. I lost that duel, needless to say.

GeneralZorpa (8000-6400-4700-2600-200-0)

The Second game went more in my favor. I blasted him with GAF, and got off the train and tsuku move and trampled him with Spear Dragon and Exarion. The duel was over when he started to topdeck again. I win.

GeneralZorpa (8000-5400-5100-4500)

Drew (8000-5700-4600-3200-1500-0)

The last duel I was in control the whole time. GAF held the fort and his cousin the Goblin Elite smacked him around. Drew just ran out of resources early on, using up his Exiled, and I finally beat him down with my last GAF and a Sangan directly.

GeneralZorpa (8000-7100-4900)

Drew (8000-7500-5300-4500-2400-100-0)

General Zorpa’s score (2-1)

After the first exhausting duel, I got some time in to trade for more stuff. Nothing particularly good, but I got a Queen’s Knight to complete the trio I had.

Game 2 GeneralZorpa VS Nelson

I had faced Nelson before when he was using his needs-improvement Horus deck. Now he was running a standard cookie cutter, with three dons, cybers and reapers.

I won the roll and went first, with a strong showing of a Spear Dragon and one face down, but MST and smashing ground took care of them. I was top-decking into the fourth turn trying to keep up with killing his Don’s. On the plus side, my GAF’s killed of some of his Cyber Dragons, but on the negative side, Don was finished with my hand and started on my deck. I lose this round to Donny Z.

GeneralZorpa (8000-7200-6200-4800-3800-2400-1000-0)

Nelson (8000-7800-7600-5400-4400)

I elected to go first. I got level 8 in my first hand, signaling a quick defeat. And quick it was. Cyber Dragon to hit my life directly, and then Don had a field day. He hit me with Don twice, I killed him with GAF, he stole it with Snatch Steal, anda quick sack for Jinzo made my Torrential Tribute worthless. I lose.

GeneralZorpa (8000- 5900-5100-4700-3300-900-0)

Nelson (8000-7100)

GeneralZorpa’s score (2-3)

Game 3 GeneralZorpa VS Chance

Chance is a little guy who runs a silent magician deck and is putting together a last turn deck and we’re all helping him. Needless to say, Dark Magician just doesn’t hold a candle to Horus.

The first duel, he won the roll, but ley me go first. Big mistake. I beat him down relentlessly with GAF, but he countered with Skilled Dark Magician. Then I played Dark hole and summoned a Twin Headed behemoth and he had no answers for the rest of the duel.

GeneralZorpa (8000-7600)

Chance (8000-6000-5000-3500-2500-200-0)

The second duel he let me go first again! It was pretty much the same story as the first, except that it was quicker. Way quicker.

GeneralZorpa (8000)

Chance ( 8000-5700-3200-900-0)

GeneralZorpa’s Score (4-3)

Game 4 GeneralZorpa VS Adrien

Adrien likes to keep us all guessing what deck he’ll play. He switches off and today he was playing a Siilva and Goldd heavy Dark World deck.

The first duel is sad. He gets out Siilva and Goldd en masse with Card destruction. My GAF’s don’t stand a chance. And to make matters worse, he summons Necrofear on me and steals my GAF and then sacks it for Siilva for the win. Was I mad, oh yeah.

GeneralZorpa (8000-7200-5000-2700-400-0)

Adrien (8000-6200)

The second duel is good for me. He gets out two Goldd’s en masse again with D-World Lightning I believe. The first attacks hurt, but not as much as my Dark Hole hurt him. My Spear Dragons secure a win.

GeneralZorpa (8000-5700-3400-2600)

Adrien (8000-5700-5100-3200-1900-0)

The third duel si a duel of the 2300 ATK monsters. I summoned Horus 6, but he never lived a turn. He rammed Goldd for a major ouchie, and brought back Gold and Specialed another one to hit me for 2300 early on. My GAF is snatched and sacked for a Siilva, but Torrential Tribute deals with that. I beat him down with Exarion and Spear Dragon.

GeneralZorpa (8000-5700-3400-11000

Adrien (8000-6200-4000-2100-300-0)

GeneralZorpa’s score (6-4)

Game 5 Alex VS Drew

See first duel for more on Drew.

I get the perfect hand and get out Horus 8 third turn, and pummel him with Mystic Swordsman 2, Horus and Spear Dragon.

GeneralZorpa (8000-7000-6100)

Drew (8000-7200-5300-3000-0)

The next duel was more exciting, with some Mataza the Zapper action coupled with Ojama Trio. I ended up using Spear Dragon and Exarion to trample him for a while, then summoned Horus 6 and then 8. 8 attacked for game.

NOTE: I only got Level 8 out against Drew, something that surprises me.

GeneralZorpa (8000-7800-7000-6000-5400)

Drew (8000-7300-6500-5400-3200-2700-0)

GeneralZorpa’s score (8-4)

Game 6 Alex VS Christian

Christian runs a CC deck that was awesome even before the CC was CC. He generally wins the tourney. I generally get second to him. He and Adrien crunched Nelson out of his two lives early, so this is the final match. Although, if I win, I have to beat him again to win the tourney, as he is undefeated.

The first duel go second. My GAF’s get smashed all over the place . He kills my hand with the Don, but manage to fissure one, and then cyber Jar kills the other. He revives one of the Don’s and Snatches my defense position GAF for the win.

GeneralZorpa (8000-7000-6200-4800-3000-1600-200-0)

Christian (8000-7200)

The second duel I go first. This is the duel that I need to keep it in the game. I draw a bad hand with Horus 8 in it early. Confiscation plays a big part in this duel as it is played 3 times. I manage to hit a Don with it and a Torrential Tribute. I smack him with GAF early on, but smashing ground and Cyber Dragon make rough going. I have a clear field and a Pot of Avarice in hand with Breaker. He has a face down and a Cyber Dragon and something else. I scoop, and go and get my pack for second.

GeneralZorpa (8000-7000-6000-4000-1700-0)

Christian (8000-7000-4700)

All in all this wasn’t a bad showing for me. Second seems to be my place around here. A big thank-you to all the great duelists at this tourney and a raised glass to their decks.

Props-

-Pulled Fushioh Ritchie from my pack

-Traded for Brain Control, Confiscation, and Cyber Twin.

-Didn’t get lower than second.

Bad Stuff-

-Didn’t do as well against the meta-themed decks as well as I’d hoped

-Got second for the third time in a row.

You got any questions about this tourney or any others in the future, email is raptor1k@hotmail.com.

See Yah!
